Wrist Brace
« on: October 04, 2016, 08:39:48 AM »
Starting to have some wrist issues.  Hurts after bowli g sometimes.  Blame it on age.  What is a good brace to wear to help with wrist issues?

Here is a long story I will try to condense.  I have had 2 wrist surgeries on my bowling wrist.  I have used every type of wrist devise over the years.  I was wearing a Storm mechanical brace for a couple of years and started to notice wrist pain again.  By chance I took it off late one night and shot a couple of spares and notice it was not as painful.  So from that point on I never put it back on.  Today I use the columbia glove that has the extended wrist coverage for a little support.  I took the metal out of the back of it and have had no pain for 2 seasons.  My recommendation is to use that one first and see if it helps before going to one that does not let you wrist move at all.

I have been using the Robby's plus wrist brace for about 2 years now. I also removed the palm brace, because it works better this way. It may take some getting used to it, but I wear it all of the time now and have no wrist pain. I also switch from 16lb to 15lb over 5 years ago, which was most of my pain issue.

you really have to try them on and test them. To bad there's no demo days for braces.

Just a word of warning. Some braces may change your grip, it may cause you to "squeeze" more. You may have to work with the PSO on this, if he/she is a good one.

once in a while i have wrist pain and I do have a C300 glove wrist brace that I use if need be.  but it limits my wrist movement - that's what "braces" do which I some times don't like. For example, I break my wrist on spares or when lanes get dry.

I'm using the Robby's Plus now with the palm metal piece removed.  I used it in the past when I carried my best averages.  Along the way I tried the Moro Pro Extended, the Robby's Rev, the Storm Gizmo with the extended index finger and the Ebonite red support with the extended finger.  Out of all of these I found the Robby's Plus to be the best for me.  The next one would be the Ebonite with the extended finger which I still use in practice sometimes.  Nice thing about our pro shop is that they will let you try out what they have in stock to see if you like it or not.  Never hurts to ask.

A wrist device will restrict your hand some. Usually you need to reduce the span in your ball to adjust to this. If the current span in your bowling ball is a little long, it is definitely going feel stretched in a wrist support.

I use the Storm Gizmo.  No metal in front.  Allows for different amounts of cupping.  Allows wrist to cup more (no restriction), but does not allow the wrist to break backward.  A single push of a button allows you to break the wrist back for spare shots.  With age, I am only good for about 2 games before my wrist hurts without a brace.  With the brace, I can bowl as much as I want.
