Ball for Drier Lanes
« on: December 07, 2008, 02:32:50 PM »
All of my equipment is starting to check up early on me and not allowing me to get the length I need out of the ball before it makes its turn, so I've been leaving some ugly stuff, my current arsenal is in my signature, all of the stuff is drilled stacked leverage. I want something thats going to get the length but will have some forgiveness and some good hitting power on the backend and I want it to have a core for the carry factor. I have a couple balls I am thinking of, either The 900 Global Link, Ebonite Bash, or the Cell Pearl at 4000 polished drilled either pin on axis or something around 5 1/2 inches to PAP. What do all of you think? Also has anyone tried the Cell Pearl on this or have one drilled Pin on Axis or at 4000 polished?

I would personally go with the Bash.  The others seem a bit strong to me, assuming you want to use this on dry.

Hammer Rayzr is a good dry lane ball. Very smooth and no jumpiness.

You could always try a surface change, 4000 grit plus a polish like Snake Oil.

If not....try the Ebonite tornado, very under rated, under reviewed ball, but it's a great light-medium ball.

Bash is a good recommendation.  Ron Clifton got one recently.  He's rev dominant and it's the only resin ball he can get down the lane with his normal release.  Visionary B/G Centaur is great if you can find one.

If you want a core for "carry factor", skip the pin axis drilling.  Yes the dense core inside may help the hit more than a pancake, but still a pin axis drilling takes the core pretty much out of the equation.  A properly thrown ball is in the "roll" phase at the pins, so I don't even know if the core helps hitting power at all, or if it's flare ability just allows the ball to get in the proper position to hit well.

Bash, clash, B/G Centaur and Chainsaw.  I like the way the emeral vibe looks too.

I would agree. Stay away from pin on axis. That usually turns that ball into a condition specific piece, only.

Go 5x5 or 5.5x 5.5, since you seem to like stacked drills, and go with the Bash! It'll probably serve you well.

if you want to stay with ebonite, the bash would be good. i'd also consider not
drilling it stacked. if your ball driller knows your game, he would hopefully
be able to give you the best answer for a layout. stacked drillings are to quick
 to respond to friction.

One vote for the Avalanche Slide. It loves dry.

Which would be better?

The Black and Red Bash or the Columbia Wrath Dead Flush?
