Ball for Drier Lanes
« on: December 07, 2008, 02:32:50 PM »
All of my equipment is starting to check up early on me and not allowing me to get the length I need out of the ball before it makes its turn, so I've been leaving some ugly stuff, my current arsenal is in my signature, all of the stuff is drilled stacked leverage. I want something thats going to get the length but will have some forgiveness and some good hitting power on the backend and I want it to have a core for the carry factor. I have a couple balls I am thinking of, either The 900 Global Link, Ebonite Bash, or the Cell Pearl at 4000 polished drilled either pin on axis or something around 5 1/2 inches to PAP. What do all of you think? Also has anyone tried the Cell Pearl on this or have one drilled Pin on Axis or at 4000 polished?

I would stay away from the Cell Pearl for this, I have two and both are beasts.  My pin under is now my heavy oil ball.  Probably the strongest pearl I have ever seen.  Neptune or Illusion would be better in the roto lineup.  Have you thought about a Creature Pearl from 900 global?

JD aren't you the 2 hander that claims you can play everywhere on the lanes?

Here is my idea....throw one handed when the lanes are dry

Playing with you of course.

If I were you, I'd go with the Rayzr.  2 handed you should be able to get some serious revs on the ball, so that ball would be pretty nice.

However, if they're really dry for you, go on eBay and pick up a Urethane ball.  In my opinion, when it comes to dry lanes, nothing and I mean nothing is better than Urethane.

Everyone has their own definition of dry, but unless you have decent heads and mids, and the problem is controlling dry back ends, I'd stay away from urethane.  Urethane rolls earlier than either plastic or most resins.  Resin will hook more overall, but unless you can get it more than 30' down lane before it pukes, it isn't of any use.  My Slate Blue Gargoyle is earlier than quite a few balls in my arsenal.  Maybe if I saw the booming back ends I see in so many posted videos, I'd use my SBG more, but right now, it's the most condition specific ball I own.

Yes I can play everywhere on the lanes, but its to the point where Im coming up the back of the ball as much as possible and throwing 21 mph and its still checking up early, so this is the point where I get something weaker.

How would a ball with a 0-1 pin with 2 1/2 oz top, placed above the fingers work out? I have a short pin Raid sitting in front of me right now and was wondering how that would work on the dry?

I have a Storm Logo Viz-a-ball for the dry.  Just got the thumb hole fixed.

I don't see a Raid working well, unless you really weakened the cover.

With that short of a pin over the fingers the ball should be very smooth, I think atleast, would just polish the 4000 and might be fine.
