« on: January 27, 2010, 01:31:30 AM »
How much do you bevel your thumb? I heard that to much is not good. On the web of my thumb it always bother me. Has anyone had this and how did you fix it?
Thanks

Your thumb hole may be too big, causing you to grip the ball, putting pressure at your thumb base.
I use a slight bevel, and white tape, placed at the front of the hole, about 2-3cm below the edge of the thumb hole. If you put tape all the way up to the edge, your thumb base, you may have problem releasing your ball

More bevel may solve your problem.  Take an old ball and add more bevel in the area where your thumb is hurting.  You can scrape with a pocket knife and/or use sandpaper.  Do it at the bowling center, add a little and try it.  Repeat until it doesn't hurt any longer.  --  JohnP

Is it at the web of the thumb or the base of your thumb toward the center of the grip?

It is the web of the thumb. tThe top of the thumb hole.

I would try a little bevel at a time.  Beveling your thumb hole to help prevent the thumb web from hurting might make the ball feel different.  The span might feel shorter and the thumb hole might feel bigger.  If this is the case, as already recommended, try some white tape.
