Ball noise
« on: April 23, 2007, 05:30:22 AM »
I've notice a noise in the back end and was wondering what it was. If you watched the dydo cup, when Robert Smith was throwing the ball there was a ton of it, and then just recently at the Denny's High School nationals, there was that noise again, but this time with a different ball manufacturer (Smith's Storm and Buckert's ebonite ice). I seem to be getting this with my radical inferno in the back end when I play inside. Anybody have any ideas?

The thump is usually the ball rolling over the thumb hole.  I remember hearing that on the Japan Cup when Smith was bowling.  Listen to WRW throw his spare ball, you'll hear that sound pretty regularly.

It could also be flaring over the weight hole for the high rev guys.  If it thumps the whole lane, it's probably the thumb, if it only thumps near or after the break point, it could be the weight hole.

Are you sure that was an Ice that Buckert was throwing?  All of the one's I've seen were light blue and definitely looked "pearl".  His was pretty dark and looked solid.

I think it IS the label. It's not really thumping noise but rather a scratching noise. I know the difference between finger/thumb holes thumping and its not that. On all brunswick's new balls I've noticed the label comes up over surface of the ball, and then the other theory of the weight hole, well if I had a weight hole it would be where the label is.
