The 7 -10 Split
« on: January 12, 2009, 04:31:47 AM »
So i was wondering when you guys leave this, do you go for the whole enchilada? or just play it safe and take out one pin?  or even like some super serious bowlers with anger issues ive seen throw a ball str8 down the middle out of spite.

I myself on the rare occasion that i do leave one (after a few fbombs), i generally go for glory.  im a lefty and generally shoot it very hard and try to nick the right hand side of the 10 to send it left.  sometimes i get it , sometimes i dump it in the channel lol.

so what do you guys do?  go for it all, or just take the count?

Depends if the team needs the count. If we do I go for count. If not I just throw it hard and hope unless I have been bowling really bad then I tend to not care. Only made it once, and sent the 10 in front of the 7 a week later. The best part about when I made it was it was the 10th frame and I needed the mark for the jackpot. Too bad I turned around and didn't see it happen just heard everyone yelling and realized I made it.

I always go for it.  Playing it safe will get you nothing.  No guts no glory.  I have made it once in like 200 tries.  It was back in college and I nailed the 10 pin I think and it bounced back and hit the 7.

Nowadays when I get it, which is rare, I go for the 7 pin.  I figured I already got it by hitting the 10 pin, I should try it by hitting the 7.  Haven't made it yet.

4-7-10 is about as hard as the 5-7 or 5-10.  I make it like 40% of the time.

the 4-7-10 (or 6-7-10 for you rightys) its def harder than the  5-7 or 5-10.  would love to see somebody line those pins up 10 times back to back and make it 4 times.  i doubt anybody on tour could do it more than 6 outta ten times

but  i digress.........back on the topic at hand.....

How do you "go for it" on the 7-10?  You just hit the inside half of either pin with a little speed and a little rotation and hope it bounces out.  There's nothing different about the way I throw at the 7-10 than either the 7 pin by itself or the 10 pin by itself.  I've made the 7-10 once, and I did it by shooting at the 10 pin the same way I always shoot at it.

And Necromancer, if you could make the 4-7-10 40% of the time, you wouldn't be averaging only 170something in tournaments.

Haha.  In tournaments I my range is like 230-130 LOL.  130's occur when I get a lot of 10's and pins near the 10.  My ball just keeps going and going straight to the gutter LOL.

BTW, I saw your bowling video.  You remind me of Steve Jaros.  (compliment BTW).  You're like a machine.

It was very disappointing to me last week. I left 3 7-10 spits in one game. that game really hurt the team. I could not believe it. I just went for the single pin.

I just fire it at the 10 like I do normally. I've only ever had it come out of the back once, and it rolled in front of the 7.

I go for the count and go for the 7 pin. I have made it 4 times, 3 of them in tournament play for college and on my own. I don't throw it any different that I would if I just left a 7 pin. I try and hit the right side of the pin and have it bounce out. I have seen it made more by not trying to throw it as hard as you can as just hitting it like any other single pin spare

I don't like to give away pins especially on a leave like that. In practice I got a 7-10, decided to sharpen up on the 10 pin. I hit it at normal speeds and it just happened to bounce back onto the deck, roll over and knock the 7 down. I never expected it you just have to be lucky but there's no luck to be had if you miss them both.

for me its just free practice on the 7 pin.  i made it once as well, and i was merely shooting at the 7 pin, no extra speed nothing.  i had missed 3 of 4 7 pins that night and i just wanted my timing back.
i dont leave that many 7-10's, and i tend to shrug the bad break off.  i figure i threw a shot good (or bad) enough to leave a weak 7 or a half 10, both can stand.

Bowl a plastic very hard and straight at the 10 pin. I picked one up in the league last season,I made almost as much noise as my first 300 as I bowled a good first ball and the game was close.

Its good to convert a 7-10 split as less people pick up one of those than bowl a 300.

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.
