Ball of the year
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:15:15 PM »
The subject of this thread got lost a bit, but since the dynamo and diamond core became prevalent, I'd like to add that with way more balls than I need, the Dynamo still remains in my bag on newer synthetics with control heavy viscosity oil to 41ft blend. I am not a hi rever either, I've had to take it down a bit, but it still offers better game on than my other oilers. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
That said, the newer stuff is definitely stronger oob.

Ball of the year (from what I've seen/thrown):

High-end - Nexxus and/or the Nano. The Nexxus put Brunswick back on the map.  The people using Brunswick in my area were scarce before that ball came out.  As for the Nano, it has been top-seller around my parts and I have one in my arsenal.  I'm a big fan of it - great ball.  I can say the usual "hooks out of the house, hits like a truck, etc."  It's all true and then some.

Mid-Level - Frantic.  This ball is a beast for the money.  For me it's a THS killer - just like the 607A was last year.  I see more and more people using this ball every week.  Great ball.

Entry-Level - Cyclone.  I see guys using this ball in a highly competitive league I bowl in that puts out a decent amount of oil.  For the pricepoint, it is hard to argue against the performance this ball provides.  I havn't thrown one, but it definitely looks like a great ball from what I've seen so far.

+1000 on that Sunshine .... Best ball I have seen in most all bowlers hands since the original Ebonite Mission and the Storm Virtal Gravity Nano Solid. That Nexus is STRONG as well as very VERSATILE and the new Nexus Pearl is no sissy either as it is as good as they come when the lanes begin to change forcing everyone to put their solids back in the bag. The Nexus line will definitely be my next purchase when I decide and can afford to buy another ball.

I think it's going to be the Nexus.  Fantastic piece and am seeing more and more of them in league.

Don't believe in the Uzi, it just went off in my hand.  I, I believe in love.

For myself and several others I have seen I will have to go with the Track 503C.  This ball is very versatile and can be used on a variety of oil conditions, if you haven't tried a Track lately give this ball a try.

For those who have lower revs then I would have to go with either the Nexus solid or VG Nano.  Both balls very strong, but for myself I rarely see enough oil to throw it and I am a tweener.

In 2010 my "ball of the year" was the Track 505T and for 2011 I would have to still say the 505T. It's just too good of a ball when I start the series with it. Only time I only come across any issues with it is on longer oil patterns that  has really bad spotty backends/carrydown and harder sport shots like the Masters pattern.

Hmmm. This is truly a subjective topic. I for one have seen a ton of people throwing VG Nanos well! But I have also seen a ton of people throwing Gamebreakers, equally as well. The Nexxus and the Frantic have just started becoming popular around here. Not a whole lot of following for the, super-fantastic, over the top, Lane#1 pieces! I only know of two people who consistently use those balls, with great success, I must add.

I own a Cyclone, which is a high performance piece, sold at an entry level price. But Ball of the Year??? NOT! I can only use that ball on PBA sport pattern, or USBC pattern which I rarely see, unless I'm going to a tournament. Now if you throw your balls with 1.5 revs.....you might actually be able to use it.....provided your speed is in the 18-19mph range as well!

Overall, I'd have a real tough time calling out the Ball of the Year. I have seen an awful lot of people scoring well with Motiv pieces. And let's not forget about Track. 718A in this part of the world has been a hit! This is a very tough call.

This is an easy one, have to go with the Motiv SIGMA TOUR. The one's that have tried this ball know this. Easy length, great midlane, tons of hitting power and just soooo versatile.... again, easy pick!!!!!!!

Nexus Solid because of its hook potential, tremendous backend and consistency from shot to shot.  The Nano will be a close second.  But then again they are just 2 hook monsters and everybody wants to see that big dick reaction of stand left and pitch it right on a wall.

The ball that deserves to be discussed but I doubt will get the recognition it deserves is the Too Reckless.  Here is a ball that provides a reaction shape unlike anything on the market and in my opinion a necessity to a tournament bowler's bag.  Low RG symmetric solid so it rolls but doesn't squirt in carrydown, plus a length additive and polish to push it down the lane.  Not a big hooking ball, but if you own one of these you would agree that it is something special.

At the low end the Karma Solid has provided some impressive consistency and hook for the price point.  Its the lowest priced solid ball on the market but with some of the best performance I have seen for medium-dry lanes.

"Solaris BlackOut Super "

To the above "obvious" choices.  NO CHANCE!!!

Why you are asking? Because nobody throws them.

Yeah ok.  The ball of the year is going to be a ball that most pro shops don't carry?

I often wonder why people ask this question. Results depend more on many fans of which manufacturer post a reply than on the ball's capabilities: Storm fans vote for Storm balls, Brunswick fans vote for Brunswick balls, RG fans vote for RG balls, Lane#1 fans vote for Lane#1 balls, etc..

Rare is the person who votes objectively. It's more like asking which football team is best: everyone votes with the blinders of prejudice.

So the ball of the year HAS to be sold in every pro shop?  Is it only the most popular ball?

I agree sales has a lot to do with it; but performance of the ball, irregardless of sales, must play a large part also.

Actually, I would argue that, Yes, it would have to be sold in every pro shop. If the ball is truly THAT good, wouldn't every pro shop want to have it on its wall?
