Ball or shoes first?
« on: November 18, 2005, 08:59:21 AM »
A friend of mine has decided that he is going to start bowling seriously.  He has a ball, an El Nino, but it's not drilled for him, plus it is too heavy.  He uses some kmart brunswick shoes.

My question is:  Do you think it would be more important to get better shoes or a better ball first?

He already averages 174 with the stuff he uses now.

Shoes at least the sst 5 or my friend got closeout dynaroo shoes from buddies, they are very nice shoes for less than 100 shipped. He has went up 12 pins a game since losing the cheap 30 dollar shoes he used for 3 years.

The dynarooz come with different soles and heels i think they are a better deal than sst4 so if going dexter go at least too sst5's.

A ball that's too heavy and doesn't fit? Well I would say shoes for sure but that situation just won't do. Hard to learn good technique with a bad fit and too much weight. Go with the ball, or better yet, both.

Hex has it right with both.  Many pro shops have deals on ball/shoe/bag packages.  As for $100 shoes, that seems a little excessive.  I've got a pair of fairly cheap Dexters that are pretty nice.  You could get some SST1s for $60 or some SST Entries for $50.

But if he has shoes that are better than the rentals, a ball that fits will do wonders.

Ball.

Having quality shoes enhances your games, however there in nothing more important than a properly fitted ball.

Good shoes to save wear and tear on the knee and for balance.

How about some entry level ssts and a PG.  All less than 150 bucks together.

I'd say ball. Learning with something that doesn't fit will lead to other problems later on. Shoes can be had at a good sale.
