Adjustments for certain leaves
« on: December 16, 2012, 10:41:17 PM »
Somehow I have forgotten the normal moves to combat certain common leaves for rt handers. Help me remember or maybe some new ones. Thanks in advance.

1) Ringing 10 pin

2) Flat 10 pin

3) 4 pin

4) 7 pin

Ring ten i back up three inches on the approach
Flat ten move forward three inches on the approach
Four pin move left 1 board or 1/2 board
Seven pins  move left three boards with my feet and target in a hair a deeper but ONLY when leaving alot of them

Is there an adjustment for the 8-10 ?

Drives me nutz.  Rarely get 7-10, and I just shrug it off when I do.  But 8-10 can happen more than once a game and infuriates me.  ---always seems to happen when I've been stringing strikes. Never when I was already bowling badly.

I can almost FEEL one coming before I even deliver the ball, so was wondering if there's something I can do to lessen the chances of leaving it.

If you're stringing strikes and feel one coming, stop before you even start. Step back and take a breath. It sounds a little like you're rushing your shot, or just getting excited.

Beyond that, the 8-10 can be a speed issue, throwing the ball too hard and it doesn't have enough roll to continue through the deck. Or, if it was a good release, step back on the approach, or maybe a half board to a board right to give it more finish room.

For me, if I ring 10s constantly, I move right to get more into friction
Flat 10s I move left to get more into oil
If I leave a 4 and I know I hit my marks, I make a 2/1 or 4/2 move left depending on how heavy I entered the pocket.
I really don't leave 7s.  I stone many more 8s than ring 7s.

Probably is a little of both.   I am getting a little excited if I am on a string, but definitely can see that I am probably throwing the ball a bit too hard.

Could be why I think I feel the 8-10 coming on. Maybe what I'm really "feeling" is the gradual increase in speed as the frames are going by.

Next time I'll make a concious effort to slow down a bit.  Thanks!

To me the question is lane condition specific. THS play different than sport conditions and not even all THS conditions are the same.

Take a 4 pin.

On certain conditions the move is to left a board and keep your target the same. But on many of the THS conditions I bowl on that simply gets the ball into the dry early and the ball hooks more. So on that my normal move is 2 and 1 or even 3 and 2 at times. Depending on how deep the puddle is in the middle and how dry the outside is.

10 pins are generally a 1/2 board moves left or right depending on type. But sometimes I just try to slow down or increase my speed a little to get a slightly different angle into the pocket.

7 pins are generally not much of a worry unless I'm swishing the them then you have to make a move to get ball to face up higher in the pocket. And I generally try to get lined up to jam my strikes and don't stay in the swish zone.

8-10 the ball isn't rolling when it gets to the pocket. Lots of reasons, speed, line, rolling out, jerked into the oil, missed the release, etc.
