Ball Pricing
« on: July 17, 2015, 10:51:51 AM »
I know people try to get ridiculous prices for retired balls on places like eBay and even here but what do you think when Pro Shops do it? The reason I bring this up is I noticed Buddies now has 15lb Storm Marvel Pearls and IQ Pearls in stock for $249.00.

They will only stay at $249 as long as people are buying them.  If no one does, then the price is too high.  And if they sell out in one day, then the price was too low.

Some balls really get a cult following.  I picked up a Marvel Pearl on close out at K and K in Sun Coast for about $125 last year.  It worked out great in the tourney I was bowling, but haven't found it to be any kind of go to ball for me since then.  I have a stronger Black Widow Legend and a tamer Cobalt Vibe that I have used much more than the MP.  Never did like the IQ pearl, but some people really did.  I do think it is a little more unique than many pearls and that could contribute to its popularity in retirement.

Bottom line if you think it is worth it, it probably is to you, but I have never seen a ball that wasn't replaceable by something newer.

Supply and Demand. That's what it is all about. I think this kind of thing is going to happen more.

Yes. Usually it is the other way, pro shops can't get rid of them, so they must sell bowling balls at reduced prices to make room for the new stuff. However, with this whole concept of "Ball of the Month", manufacturers probably don't produce as many bowling balls as they used to. Most bowling balls have a very short shelf life.

Be prepared, if the ball is really good and no longer produced you are probably going to pay MSRP or more.

Bowling gems and a few others have some very rare bowlingballs at $225 to 250 and some not so rare bowlingballs for $200 plus.

If neither the rare or the less rare are selling eventually you will either take less or be rich in bowling balls.

I love seeing bowling balls 3-5 years old listed at $200 by people and the rest still have them for $125 or less and neither are selling. Land of opportunity

I think Buddies price for the Tour Pearl and Marvel Pearl are right about where they should be. Those two balls are selling for that and more on Ebay.

I think the OPs point is not whether it is worth it, and is not asking about prices on the secondary market. The point, I believe, is that Buddies is a primary retailer selling a ball at above MSRP. They are not the secondary market.

(For the record, I don't care)
Current bag:
DV8 Turmoil 2 Pearl
Radical Squatch hybrid
Motiv Forza GT
Hammer Black Widow Gold
DV8 Vandal
DV8 Creed Rebellion

Make hay while the sun shines....I buy and sell retired balls all the time and it's great to see buddies get in on the action....It just proves the legitimacy of the prices....hell, I've sold an undrilled Paradigm without the box for 400....Retired balls are where the money is...you just have to be patient and sit on them for a year or two.

I have a few I'm trying to sell, in that price range too.  The only thing that sucks...I'm talking about Facebook postings... Is that I bet u new releases are taking some sort of % hit as people are buying old stuff, or doing those racks raffles etc. Buying tons of used stuff..

I don't blame buddies as I REALLY like their setup.  $250 isn't outrageous either.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

heck, I paid 175 bucks for a NIB yellow dot bleeder about 5-7 years ago
was money on the old dry wood lane center I used to be at.
Had multiple 300/800 with it
It was an ebay auction and I would have paid more

and on the other end of the spectrum, I just landed a NIB 16# Brunswick HPD for....

99 CENTS!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Danger-Zone-Pro-Hpd-/201387666292?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=T9JB%252BUlDIbMuv%252BxdHQJMAPh9oT0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I guess because of the way the seller had the title and the ball listed that it did not come up often in searches?

Ball was great for me back in the day. Less than $20 shipped I will take it

See ebay mistakes like that from time to time that ends up in the buyers favor.

I got a nib 15lb Zone pro Azure for $115 shipped and I was the only bidder. Very happy with the deal considering the others run $200 plus even on fb
