Well, I'm back with a new ball in hand. I'm a little worried as the guy didn't even watch me bowl before recommending and drilling the ball for me. I explained the way I bowled and asked if he would like to watch me as we discussed on the phone, but he said it wouldn't be necesary. I wanted to walk out at that point, but I trusted him and went with his recommendation. He recommended a Brunswick Raging Inferno, as he is familiar with the lanes I will be bowling on and confirmed they are very oily. He also recommended I go with a fingertip setup, which I had never tried before.
The only thing that kind of bothered me is a center hole he had to drill in the ball to make the weight even on one side. He explaiend that the ball was heavier on one side than the other, so this extra hole needed to be drilled. I asked if all balls had to have this done and he said no. I asked if the ball was deformed/misshapen and he said no and that this was a normal thing.
He drilled the ball, and placed the fingertip inserts into the holes. I rolled 3 games at the lane outside of the pro shop to test it out. I must say, I had no idea that I had the ability to make a ball hook like this. I always thought I was doing something wrong, but this ball makes it so easy.
The lanes were dry so this was the wrong ball to use. However, I bowled a 216 which is about 30 or so pins over my average. I'm going to try it out on a oily lane later tonight to see how I do there.
I wanted to get your reaction to the drilling job he did on the ball, and also what you think about the extra centering hole. Here are some pics.
