Built mine from a pile of discounted/discards 2x3's I picked up at Home Depot or Lowe's.  Had them cut to my specifications, cutting out the bad spots that discounted the wood.  I paid $1.90 per board with each board being about 16 feet in length.

There are four "shelves" with a 12 inch vertical gap between each shelf. Each shelf is made of 4 pieces of wood: Two pieces 5 feet in length and two pieces 9 inches in length.  The smaller pieces act as caps on the longer pieces (so the insides of the longer pieces are 5 inches apart) with both longer and shorter pieces being used standing on end (3 inches tall, 2 inches wide).  The boards of each shelf are glued together.

The four shelves are held together by four "legs" (risers/columns). Each leg is 48 inches tall (3 inches for each shelf times four shelves and and 3 twelve inch gaps between each shelf). The bottom of the feet and the bottom of the lowest shelf are both flush with the floor.

Pre-drilled two holes through each intersection of leg and shelf for a total of 32 holes.  I used a 5 inch bolt with two washers and a wing nut through each hole. Use a level on the second, third, and fourth shelves. This way, you can take the whole unit apart if you want to.  Otherwise, you could use wood screws and glue.

Each shelf holds 5 balls for a total of 20 balls.

Wood, bolts, washers, wingnuts, glue ... All total it cost me about $20 to build.

I made this one for 2 different friends:

http://www.putfile.com/pic/8375465

Dimensions are 36" high x 31" wide x 11.5" deep

Oak dowels hold the balls. Frame is FAS pine and poplar. Total cost for lumber and screws was $55 - 60. The oak dowels were the most expensive part, of course.

Is anyone a draftsperson?
Can they draw up plans and post them for BR members?

I'm not a draftsman, but I can do it. Only it's a lot of work, almost as much as making the darn thing. Besides, I doubt if anyone's going to make mine. It's on the expensive side. A rack made from flat 1x2s, 1x3s,and 1x4s would be cheaper to make.

If you PM me with an email addess, I will send you photos and dimesnsions when I get home from work. I have filled two of them and will be asking for a third from hims soon !

Hey BXTECH,

There were plans that johns811 had put up here last year in April that I used with good success.

I spent less than $10 to get the lumber and made a ball rack that holds 20 balls.  I have it almost filled so I may be making another one soon.

I uploaded the plans (as an image) to my website here --> http://psaunders.net/images/ballrack.jpg.

It should provide you with the details you need to make you own, good luck!

I saw one in a pro shop made out of PVC pipes.  Looked sturdy enough.  I just got rid of a Brunswick 5 ft. rack.  Seems when you need them you can't find them and when you don't they are all over the place.

Yep, that is the rack I made the plans for. It was about $10 in materials a year ago. Thanks for posting the pictures. It was very simple to make. Less then 2 hrs.
