Ball recamendation.
« on: January 18, 2005, 06:20:47 PM »
Hello all,

I am looking for a ball that will get down the lane farly well and not snap on the back.  I know it depends on how you drill a ball, but I also know if you take a ball that is made to snap and drill it too not the match up is not all that great.  Is there a ball out there that is not a pearl or polished solid that will still get down the lane and not snap.  I was looking at mabye the pure hammer but I am open to anything.  I have revs on the higher side and have medium to high speed.

FYI I have increased my speed since this video.

I have a (early = light purple) TPC Shooter, which works very well on light oil conditions. Although it is drilled aggressively, it makes a controllable move. Not a snappy thing, due to its asymmetric low RG core. I suppose you can easily have it drilled for more roll. But it is a discontinued ball, and it will not like much oil at all.

Another (but also discontinued) ball for control and a smooth reaction on light oil is the Brunswick Power Groove Proactive Plum Pearl. High RG, light particle load coverstock. Had this ball, was not lucky with it (mostly due to my bowling style and too much oil on local lanes), but it showed a nice reaction and could be a good match for your needs? Less snappy than a recative, but good length and the a typical particle move to the pocket with nice carry.

That is funny you said the Shooter,  I have that ball with a 1 inch pin and it is drilled to not hook alot and it is my most controled ball, infact I shot 659 with it tonight, but I am wanting something that is even weaker than it is.  I just though of this I have a Slate Blue Gargoyle drilled to skid flip do you think dulling it down some may help, or perhaps re drilling it.

Slipknot -- I have a Slate Blue drilled similarly.  I added an extra hole on my PAP and took it to roughly 0 side weight and it smoothed the back end up quite a bit.  You could even go down to 1/2 negative side.  --  JohnP

I know The Deal is polished out of the box, but I'm having good results with it after I've scuff it throwing a shallow line.  For me, it stores energy with mild movement.

I use it when the pattern is flat (whether or not there are clean backends.).

Hey thanks for the replys y'all.  John I may try adding a weight hole too the slate blue, Visionary says that it only has a 40 backend rating out of 100 but it sure hooks more than that for me.  Overhand, I was looking at a few balls before I posted this (well more like a few hundred) and I looked at the Deal, how good is the lenght of that ball?  The RG seems a little low (which may be why it is tamer on the back) for the length I am looking for, but I also know that you can't just go by the numbers.  Thanks again Slipknot

Would a Visionary Green Centaur do that for you?  I dont know how your higher revs would effect it.  Otherwise, how about a Barrage?
