Ball recommendation
« on: August 10, 2012, 01:05:35 AM »
Hi bowlers, looking for a recommendation from you all for my 15 year old Cranker son. Right now he has a 4 ball arsenal with a gaping hole in the middle. He has an original Virtual Gravity, a polished Mutant Cell, a DV8 Misfit, and a white dot. Looking for something that fits smack dab in the middle. Not manufacturer specific, so didn't post this in a specific ball section. Recommend away!

I would recommend something like an Endure by Ebonite.  Sounds like he has the high end solids and low end pearls covered.  Something in the middle would be possibly a mid level hybrid and the Endure fits that completely.  For those that have drilled one of these, they have loved the roll and reaction shape they get to complement the high end stuff.

The DV8 Marauder would be a good fit in the middle of the lineup which has a hybrid coverstock that has rough buff as the finish. Another good fit would be the Brunswick C*(System) Versa-Max with a factory polished coverstock that is a solid base.  Both would be smooth reacting balls that the surface can be adjusted easily to get different reactions.

900 Global Hook Hybrid would fill the dry-med conditions and give a smoother reaction than the pearl misfit.

Take a look at the new BERSERK coming out this Tuesday by ROTO GRIP. It has a hybrid cover with the caliber core (symetrical). This ball will get good length ( not too long) and has a smooth continuous arc. I have one on order. He can find out why ROTO is King of them all!

Medium control ball? 900 Global Wisdom (Crankers love it!) or the AMF Cobra Special edition.

I would say an Ebonite Game Changer,it's a very nice rolly symetric cored benchmark type of ball.Bowlingball.com has them for $95 with free shipping.

If the Berserk is anything like the Nomad Dagger, it will be an outstanding choice for your son.  Since he already has a VG and polished Mutant Cell, the Beserk would be a few boards less overall than the Mutant while still being a few boards more than the Misfit.

Now, I haven't thrown the Beserk but the Nomad Dagger gave me a very clean look up front with a predictable arc motion that was hard to beat.  It also made it very easy to tell if I needed to throw something stronger, weaker, or stay with the Dagger.

From what I understand, the hybrid cover on the Beserk is similar to the Dagger.  Plus, the Camber Core builds off the Rotary Core by offering better energy retention while still offering great hitting power.  Also, the Beserk is just cover and core- no filler material.  Overall, it could be a great ball to fill in the gap for your son.

Columbia Violent Eruption, the ball is just special. Great late mid-lane read and tons of continuation for a pearl ball. if he wants something super smooth that gets down the lane but still has enough to get back and carry I'd go with the 706A.

Thanks for the replies gang and great recommendations. Personally, my research has kind of pointed me in the direction on the Track 706A like MrPerfect mentioned. Maybe I'll wait a another week and see how personal reviews of the Berserk and Cobra go. He never threw a Track ball, but he did say that he would love to try one.
Thanks everyone, and if anyone got more recommendations, I'd love to hear it!

Hyroad or crossroad will do the trick I'm sure, my arsenal would useless without one of those..(used to have a hyroad, now have a crossroad).  Nothing bails me out more than these two, hell the pros can't be wrong! Marvel pearl would also help as this is a huge gap here!  Anyways goodluck!

I would say to pick up one of the new urethane balls for him, they work great on the majority of medium to low oil patterns, and gives him room to still hit the ball. This way he doesn't have to fight drastic lane adjustments when the pattern gets ruff.

HyRoad and the Crossroad sounds like a good choice!  Still waiting on reviews and comments on the Berserk, Cobra, and how about the Bullwhip?
