Hi all,

I'm starting to bowl again after about a decade of not bowling and I'm looking to buy a new ball. I'm a stroker, I like to stand near the center dot and throw over the 2nd arrow. I don't throw it super hard and not a ton of revs. Avg. around 175-180.

Currently throwing an old Messenger TI. I like it for the most part, but tends to really take off more than I want when the lanes dry out. I could go for something that hooks slightly less than that.

I assume anything with a pearl coverstock? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would love to have a C300 Messenger TI...great ball!

Pro shop operator can make great suggestions after watching you bowl based on speed, revs, release style, and lane conditions.

The lane conditions/oil that they put out there has changed quite a bit over the last decade. Hard to say how modern bowling balls will compare in terms of reaction with your Messenger TI on modern lane conditions.

However, I think you have the right idea considering bowling balls with pearl coverstocks in the lower price range (since they tend to hook less). These days, the coverstocks have become so aggressive that a lot of pearl coverstocks can be used for medium-heavy and heavy oil. I would encourage you to also check out hybrid covers (get the best of both worlds of pearl and solid, and very versatile) and urethane coverstocks. The latter have been making quite the comeback recently and many bowlers double it as a dry lane ball and also as their spare ball.

Many many options out there...and the internet has a wealth of knowledge with comparison videos on YouTube and reviews from this site too.

Go with something that has low flare potential like a Columbia Deep Freeze or Storm Ride. Even though they are polished balls; the balls dont really "take off". I am a little rev dominate and even when my Deep Freeze encounters friction, it still hooks but isnt an uncontrollable hook. It is still pretty smooth and easy to control. May want to give one of those 2 balls a look.

The Rack Attack Pearl from Radical fits the description of what you're looking for. This is a very reliable ball that you'll be able to play the down and in line like you want for the majority of the night with little adjustments.
