Ball rejuvenator
« on: March 10, 2013, 03:01:59 PM »
May I unashamedy recommend a new ball rejuvenator invented by a bowling friend. It's a ball oven called the NuBall. I have one and have been trying it for the past 2 weeks. It extracts oil from balls via heat applied with a fan to circulate the heat via a thermostat (ranging from 95 to 155 degrees; recommended temp is 135 degrees Fahrenheit).

Please check out the information on their website:
http://www.scbp.biz
and
the product can be purchased through Amazon via
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCQ0YG6/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Please be aware that the price listed currently ($169.95 +$20 shipping) will soon be raised, as it is a very low introductory price.
(FYI This is not mine: I am not selling it. I am recommending it.)

I have been told to add this about the warranty which will be added to the NuBall when it is shipped:

NuBall should be very difficult to damage.  If any part of NuBall is accidentally damaged, replacements for all broken parts will be sent for the asking.

More possible is that the top (fan, heater, thermostat etc) might stop working.  If so I will send them a new top section.  I will not send a whole replacement machine - I will replace only the part(s) damaged or not working.

Both statements are good for two years from the date of purchase.  The company phone number and email address can be found on the back page of the Operating Instructions.

I use my dishwasher with excellent results.   For those that don't have a dishwasher, this looks like an affordable alternative.

I've used my ovens keep warm feature. It ranges from 100 up in 5 degree increments. Still the cost of use on a gas oven vs a small electric unit would make this a very nice option

Charlest,

You might want to have your friend check their website.  I don't know about anyone else, but when I click on the "Buy On Amazon" button on their Products page, nothing happens at all.  Your link to Amazon was helpful.  Thanks.

Thanks for the the heads up, Jeff. Just placed my order on Amazon.

I've tried every published (and I think unpublished  :) ) method conceivable for oil extraction, and nothing exceeds the effectiveness of controlled heat. I was excited to see a personal product available that makes sense from a cost standpoint.

Look forward to trying it out.

Please dont take this the wrong way as this looks like a great product and will sell well.  For the budget minded bowler you can get the open country dehydrator at Gander mountain for 80.00, hollow the trays and its the same thing. I will post photos of mine later.

I wonder if the problem is with your browser or its settings. I never tried the link before until you said this. The first time I tried it, it worked. I use Mozilla Firefox.
I did get your problem using IE version 8. I'll report this. Thanks.
Meanwhile try the AMAZON link directly.

WHICH BROWSER did you use?

I'm using IE8 on my old XP-Pro machine.  Must be the problem.  This computer is about to be replaced by a new one I'm building.  Bye-bye XP and IE8.

I'm not fond of IE any release.  :-\
I've liked Firefox since I started using it. It seems to have more flexibility, more functionality and better security, but I'm just a user, not an expert.

No one else has reported any problems with that link but I have no idea what everyone else uses. (Everyone else, please report only problems and when you do please tell me which browser you're using.) I'll relate them back to the inventor. I think he contracts out his web work, as many people do.

Thank you, storm22.
I hope it does what you need.
I'm just doing a friend a favor right now. If I were a salesman, maybe I'd have a real job by now instead of being retired.  :D Hope springs eternal!

I received my NuBall from Amazon the other day and I've had the opportunity to bake several balls.

Like chariest, I had a few very well maintained balls that didn't expose any oil after the recommended hour bake at 135 degrees. But I had others that that exposed a slimy oil surface after less than 30 minutes in NuBall. The unit works as advertised and is a bargain for the money.

I did have a few questions about positioning the center piece on the base, and my e-mail to the inventor was answered quickly with a complete explanation. It's clear that the company backs the product, which is always refreshing to see.

I'll be recommending NuBall to bowling friends so they have the opportunity to purchase at the introductory price. Thanks again the charlest for the recommendation.

My NuBall arrived Wednesday, which was the beginning of my wonderful experience with this product (it wasn't slated to arrive until at least Thursday).  It was packed well, and it comes with a small instruction pamphlet that is very clear about which piece is which and how to put it together.  There is some assembly required, but there are literally only four pieces and all you have to do is set one on top of another.  It is made from fairly high quality plastics.

The heating process works as expected, efficiently and evenly.  There is a dial with which you can set the temperature, although I found the recommended 135* to be adequate.  The process does give off a faint smell, but on a Good-->Bad scale I'd peg it as neutral.  Still, it might cause you to consider setting it up in the garage.

Pros:
--The NuBall doesn't take up much space.  I currently have it set on an endtable in my bedroom.
--The mechanical parts make very little sound.
--The instructions come with pictures of each part.
--The creator/manufacturer will replace broken parts for two years from the date of purchase.
--The heating process is very even.  I haven't found any hot/cool spots on any of the balls I've done.
--About a million times more effective and repeatable than a hot water bath, in my opinion.

Cons:
--There is no power button, as far as I can tell.  To turn it on or off you have to plug/unplug it from the outlet.  Not a big deal, but it would be nice.

All in all, I'm extremely happy that I have this product.  Much thanks to Charlest for bringing it to our attention.

Mine came in on Thurs and I immediately took it out to set it up.  I noticed that the top and bottom sections came in a seperate box and fit together snugly.  When I attempted to set the middle barrel section on top of the bottom base piece, I had a bit of frustration in not being able to get them to mesh snugly.  The top section fit snugly on the middle but the bottom gave me a bit of trouble.  It seemed like the bottom was a bit too small or the middle was a bit too large to fit snugly together.  After a bit of fiddling with it, I got them to sit together.  I found out later from the designer that because of the molding process, there has to be a bit of an angle between the top and bottom ends of that large middle section.  This resulted in the bottom of the middle being about 3/16 larger than the top of the middle section.  Not a big issue for me, but something that others may want to be aware of especially the first time setting it up.  After a couple of times of putting it together it does become easier and something that becomes second nature.

My unit ran flawlessly but because of either the balls I chose to use or my already established cleaning regimen, I was unable to draw any oil out of the two balls, a Visionary Blue Sparkle Gryphon that I have been using for the past three months without a hot water bath and an original Blue Warlock that had been sitting around that I had been using prior to the BSG.

I had been communicating with Charlest about the unit and he forwarded my email to the designer who contacted me and explained the middle section process to me.  Nice to have that type of customer service.

I will attempt again after a few months of bowling and see if I can draw any oil out of my ball.

I think this NuBall will be a good investment for the serious league bowler, especially at this introductory price with the warranty and customer service.
