Just a quick note.  The Hammer Jigsaw is not in there.  Not sure if you just missed that or if BTM didn't review that for some reason.  Either way, I just wanted to point it out.

Aloarjr810,

Thnaks for keeping this updated thru the years.

One comment.  I made a reference to your grit chart to charlest.

http://home.earthlink.net/~litefrozen/downloads/bowling_grit_chart.pdf

He felt some of the grits do not correspond correctly.  I am making this comment so maybe it should be looked at and for those that might take your chart verbatim as I did.

charlest's list of corresponding grits FEPA to US.  You'll see that your chart doesn't match Jeff's list.  I realize this maybe subjective but since I made some adjustments to a couple of balls surface I have to agree more with Jeff's abbreviated list

P4000 FEPA = 2000 US
P3000 FEPA = 1500 US
P2000 FEPA =  1000 US
P1500 FEPA = 750 US
P1000 FEPA = 550 US
P500 FEPA  = 360 US

I didn't miss it, they haven't done it yet. Ball just came out recently, should be  in sept. or oct issue at the latest i'd say.

Got to remember If a ball comes out say in july, it's not going to be in the july issue, probably not august issue either.

As I say at the top of my chart:
"Note grit comparison charts can vary alot, this is do to the tolerance ranges used by different company's and association's.
Like CAMI which has a wide tolerance range and FEPA which has a tighter range. So one chart might say two product's have the same grit and another chart will say they don't."

look at the micron sizes on my chart,
a P2000 is 9 microns, a US 1000 is 9.19 microns. a .19 micron  difference.

Jeffs list
P4000 FEPA = 2000 US---my chart 1500 is 3 microns, 2000 is 1 micron a 2 micron difference
P3000 FEPA = 1500 US---my chart doesn't list a P3000 but it's about US 1400,5 microns
P2000 FEPA =  1000 US---my chart 1100,9 microns, a .19 micron  difference
P1500 FEPA = 750 US---my chart US 800, 12 microns about 1 micron diff.
P1000 FEPA = 550 US---my chart US 550 same, 18.29 microns
P500 FEPA  = 360 US---my chart US 360 is 28.96 microns, P500 is 30 microns about 1 micron diff.

So the differences in his list and mine are minor. It's not that one is more right than the other, it's just where the grits have been placed with in the different tolerance ranges.

My list was made by cross referencing with as many other grit cross reference charts as I could find from the different assoc. and companies. and how they placed the grits.

Might look at these charts also, they show how much the grit sizes can overlap.
like a P500 can range from a us 320 to a little over 360.

This looks like it could be a good resource and reference, but I am with chipmunkbowler, without a clear explanation of the categories and how they were obtained, doesn't do us much good. How did you get the RG & Diff numbers? They don't match what the manufacturer's put out. Also, why can't we set the data to auto filter in excel?

The information on the spreadsheet is from Bowling This Month (BTM) magazine from their ball talk reviews.

The numbers reflect the opinions of the BTM testers on how the balls reacted on the four different "fresh conditions".

These numbers are how the BTM rated them and may not be the same as the ball company numbers.

As for the "auto filter in excel" check in the excel forums. I don't know right off hand.

The information on the spreadsheet is from Bowling This Month (BTM) magazine from their ball talk reviews. It's just a quick lookup chart.

It's highly recommended to get a subscription to this magazine. It's about the best bowling magazine around, its geared to higher average bowler's. But lower average ones can benefit from it also. Besides ball reviews there are articles on other aspects of bowling.

This sheet doesn't include the text part of the ball review's, which has more detailed information. Such as lane conditions, drillings and comments from the testers.

See if your proshop has some laying around and take a look or see their site here.
http://www.bowlingthismonth.com/

As for the numbers
In the columns marked OIL-MEDIUM-DRY-SPORT, you see S-T-C this refer's to Strokers-Tweeners-Crankers. BTM has a ball tester for each catagory.
(stats on the bowlers can be found in the magazine)

The numbers reflect the opinions of the testers on how the balls reacted on the four different "fresh conditions".

1-3 is below average performance, 4-6 is average performance and 7-9.5 is excellent performance.

So if your a Stroker, a Tweener or a Cranker, you'll look under the listing that match's you. If your not into all the technical aspect's of balls, just stick to these numbers.

As for the other numbers basically its-

Box finish is what the Out of Box (O.O.B.) surface is from the factory.

Hook 1-100 bigger the number the more it hooks.

Backend 1-20 bigger the number the stronger the backend reaction.

Length 1-25 bigger the number the farther it goe's down the lane before it reacts.

Torque 1-10 The flippiness of the ball, bigger the number more flippy it is, smaller number the more even at the breakpoint it is.

Diff/Flare 1-10+ -bigger the number more flare.

RG 1-10+ basically lower numbers are more early revving, higher the number the ball revs later.

Load refers to how the particle content of the coverstock on Particle balls.

Ball Symmetry- A=Asymmetrical S=Symmetrical

These numbers are how the BTM rated them and my not be the same as the ball company numbers.

As for which numbers to use, thats up to the user, Different bowlers look for different things.

P.S.
I'm working on adding this info with the sheet, soon as I decide how to format it.
