Gluing in Grips
« on: October 30, 2006, 01:06:26 PM »
What is the best way to glue in some new grips?  I cut them down to size and put them in the holes...do I put glue on all the sides..or just one?

Please Advise...and yes this is a serious question.

You cut them down to size?? I have never cut a grip in my life and cant for the life of me figure out why you'd need to. You drill the hole just a tad longer than the grip, put just the slightest amount of bevel on the hole to prevent chipping, and slide the grip in. Now, due to the pitch of the hole you'll notice the grip isnt flush, so, flush up the deep side, apply the glue, wait a minute for the glue to set. Next, apply the glue to the raised side, push the grip down flush and hold it for a minute to set. Repeat on other grip. Done.

which would make total sense, except for the fact that I got this ball from a friend, and the finger holes are pretty shallow, and his original grips are about half the size of the normal sized one lol.

One of the guys brought in a device called the flusher.  It makes putting inserts in flush very simple.  We do a lot of reverse pitches in the fingers and it works great.

Robert, have you got a link to that flusher?

... he says, expecting someone to post a plumbing website.

I looked at the info on the Flusher when it first came out and couldn't figure out how it works.  In addition to the link, could you explain that.  Thanks  --  JohnP

I would be interested as well... I use a bunch of reverse pitch in my fingers and have to trim the top and sides of all my finger inserts...  Usually I just used a razor blaze followed by some acetone, but usually that doesn't get them very smooth!

The flusher is available from Vise Grips.  Instructions come with it....It's pretty simple to use, actually....

Friend of mine showed me a great trick. He glues the bottom and sides of the grip and leaves the top unglued. He cuts little pieces of matchbook covers and if the grip ever feels loose due to cold weather and his fingers shrinking, he puts a piece of the MBC between the hole and the top of the grip.
