Title: Ball Reviews Gathering in North Carolina
Post by: Magic Carpet on March 01, 2004, 07:11:16 AM
Ball Reviews Gathering in North Carolina

I am hosting a Ball Reviews Gathering at my center in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
The date is May 28th 29th 30th.

The bowling center is:
 Creekside Lanes
1450 Trademart Blvd
Winston-Salem, NC 27127

Here is a Yahoo map link you can click on to make it easy to find the bowling center.

http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?name=&ed=xelZFep_0Tp3I5uVt4vmVP_gvXmvdEZLAAZBo3wJj4MTfktKKm.Edy2zo9qV7EH0jReCcT1vZL5qXU9._GxmcxUI7lOfy4pjZbBw_4ja4zMHLLUF3kK6&csz=Winston+Salem%2C+NC+27127-5646&desc=&mag=9&ds=g&state=NC&uzip=&country=us&BFClick=&BFKey=&resize=s

The airport to fly into is Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC. The official designation GSO for websites that want the airport code.
This is a nice small airport that is only 20 mins. From the bowling center.

A good clean but CHEAP hotel near the center is:
Extended Stay America The Winston-Salem - Hanes Mall Blvd. location
http://reservations.extstay.com/extstay/dsprop.nsf/8149dd9bc61d30f6852568ea003f92ca/e226fd77314b0d5b852565710083585a?OpenDocument

Current rate $45 per night. For a single. I think a double is $10 more per night

Rates are based on single occupancy. All rates are subject to change without notice and are based on arrival date, length of stay and room type. Taxes are not included.

Directions From Airport to the hotel:
From the airport (Piedmont Triad Int'l Airport), travel west on Airport Pkwy./Bryan Blvd. approximately 1 mile. Travel south on Hwy 68 for approximately 2 miles. Take I-40 West and travel approximately 20 miles. Take Exit 189 (Stratford Rd.). Turn right onto Stratford Rd. and travel approximately 100 yards. Turn left onto Hampton Inn Ct. Extended Stay America will be on the right.
Hotel address:
1995 Hampton Inn Ct.
Winston-Salem, NC 27103
Telephone: (336) 768-0075
Fax: (336) 768-7225
Miles From Piedmont Triad International Airport: 23

I did this about a year ago and the turn out was great with Ball Reviews posters coming from across the Country.
I know that new posters join the Ball Reviews forum every day and some of them may not know me.
I am a nationally known bowling coach and I get big bucks for making bad bowlers better and good bowlers great!
While this gathering is not a bowling camp I am offering some free coaching time to everyone that wants it. You can check out my website at www.bowl4fun.com

The gathering is about meeting the posters and having fun. We will have a handicap "bragging rights" tournament on a PBA pattern or Sport Shot.

The largest mall in the state is near by and Winston Salem is the home of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and we will be eating while they are still HOT.

If any of you are NASCAR fans we will be about 15 miles from Richard Childress Racing  http://www.rcrracing.com/Home/home.asp

If this post needs more info or you have any questions just post them here and I will answer. Lots of people may have the same question.
Please post here if you plan to attend.

I would also like some feedback on how many of you would like to buy an event t-shirt. If I have enough interest I can have them made.

Ron Clifton

I'm sure you saw most of the names from the other post, but my wife and I will be there again.  I had a great time and learned a lot last time.  I'd probably buy a T-shirt.

Do you still have Harley's number?

Have SrKegler's pool stick and the Krispy Kreme hat ready.

Come on people, you don't want to miss this.

Too far to drive (2 1/2 days) and can't fly because of heart condition. Especially after major lung surgery last summer.

Please post if you are coming.

I have not really set up a schedule of events yet because I
need a better Idea of how many people will be here. I am also
open to suggestions as to what the folks would like to do.

I'll likely be there Ron.  Just a matter of getting the days straight.  I might be closing on a house that weekend, so I'll have to keep my options open.  Currently, though, I'd like to think I'm coming.

Come on guys and gals, I'm coming from Southern Cali, I sure hope to meet more than just 4 or 5 of you.  I am looking forward to some of Ron's coaching/tips.  I missed out last year due to my limited time there.

My flight arrives in Greensboro at 4:21PM Friday, so anything for Friday evening through Sunday, count me in.  If anyone wants to do an early breakfast Monday, my flight out isn't until 12:50.

I am coming and I am going to try and drag straightUP7 with me even if its by his pony tail.  I will be driving though as I live near Charlotte, NC anyways.  I am definitely looking forward to it.  End of May should give me plenty of time to sharpen and polish my saws.

I'm in for anything with different lane conditions, or tournament like settings.  I'd be willing to chip in extra for the extra preparation or a small bragging rights prize.  I definitely need a coaching tune-up.  I'm sure Tweener2K4 would pay for them if the Scratch Doubles Tournament ran any longer.    I didn't get a lot out of the demo days last time, but they are a great thing to try.  If one is set up, I'll join as long as it's reasonable.

I have to cover vacation next week (2 guys off at once), so they have to let me take my vacation in May even if the other guy needs his knee surgery.  Looking forward to meeting faces, new and old.

Although I was willing to forego the Chicagoland Open (see PinKisser's post), I have had some family commitments come up and I won't be able to make this year's NC gathering.  It was a tough decision to make, considering what a good time it was last year.

Keep me posted on future gatherings.

P.S.  Send Harley my regrets.

Ron,

Do you have a schedule of events that will take place on this weekend?  I saw that the Demo Days are out because of lack of people. I have never been to one and was looking forward to it. I think there's 2 more people coming with me that weekend that post on the form some. Not 100% but I am hopeful. I am looking forward to bowling with different people and I really want one of those doughnuts

A good time for me to start this thing would be about
12 Noon on Friday but if someone is set to arrive earlier that’s fine.
Just let me know so I will be at the center.

When you arrive at the center if you don't see me just tell
the counter person you are with Ron Clifton's group. They will
tell you where to put your equipment.

Friday we will just bowl and have fun at the lanes. I will give
lessons to anyone interested. Friday night we will all go out to
eat. Then if we have enough interested we can visit a more adult venue.

Saturday morning at 10 AM it’s breakfast at creekside with bacon and eggs.
(We have killer bacon)
Then it’s back on the lanes for some warm up and a bragging rights tournament.
There will be a mixture of house shot patterns and ….let’s say more challenging shots in the tournament.

We can bowl like mad dogs until 2 pm then I will have to give up some lanes for a big group coming in.
I think we can snag a few lanes till 4 pm. From 4 PM till 6 PM the center is full for a private party.
So we will go out and eat and come back and bowl some more if you have any left.

Sunday is still up in the air because I don’t know when you folks have to leave and what time.
It would be nice if we could all meet for Sunday brunch at least.

Of course we will figure a Krispy Kreme visit in there to get some HOT off the line.

One last list please of who is coming and what time
you expect to arrive. So sound off!!

I fly out of LAX with a stopover in Chicago and I am scheduled to arrive at the Piedmont Triad Airport at 4:19PM Friday.  Hopefully this will not be like my flight into and out of San Jose this past weekend.  Both flights were delayed close to an hour  If all goes as scheduled, I should be able to get to the center by 6PM.

My flight out is Monday at 12:50PM.  So count me in for anything Sunday.

I am looking forward to seeing those that were there last year and meeting the new people.
