What's the oldest ball you actually use?
« on: May 24, 2005, 06:40:52 AM »
With all the whining (and yes, that is what most of it is) about the proposed USBC changes and how it'll render your equipment useless I got to thinking... how many of us really own AND USE very old equipment?

For example, one of the proposed rules will grandfather certain balls until 2008.  Let's say you have a ball a year old... will you REALLY be using it in three years?  How many of us are still actively throwing 4 year old bowling equipment?

Me... my oldest ball is about a year old, but I'm an exception because of my ball company relationships.  How about you?

The concern with older equipment in my opinion is not so much the drilling but the fact that they don't have the proposed USBA logo on them, that hurts someone like me who is sitting on some old zones and track equipment still undrilled. I don't mind the label drilling I just think that having a USBA logo on a ball as a requirement is stupid.

I use a Complete Chaos and a Trauma Response on a regular basis.  However, it just so happens that I have at least 2 brand new, drilled, ready to roll balls of each type that would all be deemed illegal due to the CG shift and weight holes.  So, the USBC is telling me that my complete arsenal is illegal!  I don't plan to replace my arsenal to satisfy some unknowing individuals at the USBC....I'll hang up my shoes first.

Yeah, but how OLD are some of these balls.  I mean, most of these balls will probably still be good after the USBC proposed changes take into effect.  Most "old" equipment I see is drilled label.

it does seem that most of these older balls are "just in case" balls.  But rarely are they first out of the bag.
