USBC and ID#
« on: October 03, 2006, 09:51:19 AM »
Okay, I seem to recall that once you have a USBC ID# that, that ID was your permenant lifetime membership ID#??? I noticed that on my new card the ID# is different compared to the last 3 cards I have.

Anyone know what could have caused this? I dont care just curious.

I moved to another association and when I paid for my 06-07 I put my old number on the form. The association secretary didnt see it and put me in as a new member. I called the USBC and told them and they looked me up and said they made a mistake in my new association.

The USBC sent me another card with my old number on it and I guess its good to go.

I work in a large association office.  I have imputed over 75 leagues in the last 2 or 3 weeks.  And we're almost half way done.  And here's why you get a different number.....

1. you didn't fill out the card completely with your existing ID number
2. You moved out of the association you established your ID in and did not give that ID to your new association.
3. you used a nick name instead of your birth name or name given on a previous card.

Our association does not have the numbers for every bowler across the country.  We cannot cross referance any name vs number other then what you yourself can do on bowl.com.  And anyone that has done that has seen the limitations of bowl.com' s searching ability.  And frankley we don't have time to look up every body's ID number via the internet, that is not on the card.  The program (WinLabs) that the bowling industry uses automatically goes to the best option when you type in a name.  Otherwise, everything has to match.  Your name, address, birth date and phone.  We have many John Smiths in our data base.  If you don't give us more clues on which John Smith you are we give you a new number.

Now, what we can do is merge your identities.  If you come up with your original ID it is possible to merge the two IDs and come up with whatever number you prefer.  But if you have moved out of an association, there's no way that your achievements in that association get transfered over to the new association's data base.  Because we do not have access to those data bases in other associations and states.

And to Shipper.

Yes that was the association's fault.  They should have caught the unfamiliar number and put it in with your name and address.  Just like I have to catch address changes, and last name changes when ladies get married.

What I am starting to think happened here was this, The secratary lost my USBC ID# from last season so instead of contacting me about it she just assigned me a new #. The name and correct average is on the card so im not too worried about it.

It has little to nothing to do with the league secretary.  Its all happening in the assocation office.  And the league secretary is not repsonsible for providing your ID to the association.  You are.

Every league you are given a sanction form to fill out, even if you just sub.  You HAVE to put your ID on it or else take the chance of getting assigned a new number.

I don't usually fill in my ID # on the sheet but it never gets changed on me.  I guess my question is, does it really matter if it changes or not?

No it doesn't matter unless you are tracking your entire life history of bowling.  The various ID numbers muddy the waters then.

The Sanction cards that I get, everyone of them are premade and printed up because I have been in the 2 leauges before. Even the Temp card you get was pre-printed for me.

We have pre printed cards too.  Ran most of them off myself for our 14,000 bowlers.  Made up all the folders with all the sanction information for each secretary with the pre printed cards of their bowlers from the previous season, plus a bunch of blank cards (which they always seem to lose).

If the information on the card is not correct in any way, make a note on it and change it.

It's best to merge them.  Call bowling HQ and give them the 2 numbers and they will combine them for you.  If you have honor scores with each number, you won't get credit for them together.  I moved from one association to another and I had to get mine combined.  It was no big deal.  Call 1-800-414-bowl.

I have had the same number for 15 years, they screwed up one year and gave me a new number, thought about bowling nationals twice but thought again.  ended up calling the headquarters and they straightened it out and issued me the correct number
