ball spinner
« on: May 24, 2009, 10:43:42 AM »
Ok so I finally got myself a ball spinner to alter surfaces etc.

What do I need to do this?  What products (polishes, abralon pads etc.) will be useful and effective AND where can I find the best price on these?

thanks

I am lucky there is a automotive painting supply right around the corner from me, they have all the abralon pads @$2.50ea and every grit of wet sand paper you could imagine, and all the colors of scotchbrite, and they are much cheaper than anywhere else I have found. As far as what brands of polish and the like, that is about as varied as the bowling balls they are used on, I personally like Lane1 Secret Sauce, Valentino's Snake Oil, Storm's products, Brunswick's Rough Buff and Factory Polish, and 3M Finesse it. They all have small to large differences in how they work, and there are many others that I have not tried yet, so maybe some others can give you some more suggestions.

it depends on what you want to accomplish.

full resurfaces?

just start out and experiment?

if it was me I would get maroon and lt. grey scotchbrite
various abralon pads say 320 up to 4000 (depends on if you want to just experiment, if so just get 1000 to 4000)
as for polish everyone likes their own brands... I prefer storm compound (expensive though) and valentinos snake oil (fantastic and VERY easy to use) (but any gritless polish should work well)

some stuff you can get online from buddies and supergrit. but the scotchbrite can be found cheap at auto stores or even a hardware store like ace.

I am looking for everything.  I want to run the gauntlet to become proficient at changing the surface of the ball.  from a polish so bright to make it skid like a plastic, to so dull it will make the shark look like it was just stripped
