ball spinner bowl - need help
« on: May 14, 2008, 05:01:23 AM »
I am going to make a ball spinner out of a motor i have.  I just need to get a bowl or pot to use to hold the ball in place.  Has anyone created their own spinner and if so, what size bowl worked, where did you get it and i want to make sure i punch the hole exact center for the post, so what way worked best to get exact center.

Thanks,

I can't find it, but a year or two ago someone on the PBA.com forums posted some website showing how they made one with a drill. Maybe you can do some more digging, I'm at work =P

Maybe this would help with finding the center.

Go to the FLEA markets and look for old cast iron pots. Take a 6 lb house ball with you so it doesn't get too heavy from carrying it to check the pot size.

Cut off the handle and take to a machine shop. They can put it on a lathe to balance it.

My grandfather built me 3 of them this way. If the pot is too flimsy it will bend from putting the balls in and out.

This is how I got started in the pro shop business and developed the "SECRET SAUCE"

A Honda civic rear brake drum works perfectly, plus is a lot stronger than any bowl your can put on.
