Title: Ball Suggestions Please.
Post by: Elimeno Pee on September 10, 2013, 05:22:22 AM
So I just got a Totally Defiant... Love it so far.  First ball in a few years that, even though only 1 night, allowed me to use just that ball.  I have a 900G Profit, and an original Defiant drilled to my new span.  I have a relatively dead Black Widow Pearl, a Black Widow which has some life left, and a Versa-Max which has a lot of life left, but all drilled to my former span, and need the thumb moved in order to use them comfortably.  I was given an Ebonite Pursuit, which would need total plug/re-drill.  I also have a second original Defiant, Double Thumb Pin in ring finger, which i'd need to change the thumb pitch to be comfy in.  The Totally Defiant has eliminated my need for the Double Thumb, skid snap-ish Defiant, which has probably about 50 games on it.

I was thinking of maybe selling the Versa, Double Thumb Defiant, and Black Widow, and try to get something like a Thrash Frenzy or the new Tribal, or even go for an HP2 line ball from Roto for a go to ball when the Totally and the Profit are just too much.  (During the travel league in my area, we run into some deserts).

I could also have the Versa-Max thumb moved, and maybe augment the surface to get down the lane a bit farther to be that lighter go-to ball.

Other question is, i'm playing around the 3rd arrow out to about the 5-7 board at the late break point with the totally, and that is where i'm liking the look of playing, where could I put the Pursuit into play?  Will the pursuit just be over kill, or could I polish it and make it a go to ball?

Anybody have suggestions on values to the Black Widow, Defiant Double Thumb, and Versa-Max?

BTW- I can already see myself using mainly the Totally Defiant, just like having the "backup" in the bag when the "s" hits the fan

The Pursuit would be too much overlap, I'd pass it on to somebody else and get something lower end if you're looking for something to fill a hole, BUT I've had a lot of success using older higher end balls that have died for my dry shot balls.  They still have the motion and control of a higher end ball, but have tamed down enough to work.  I'd give that a shot first, then you don't need another ball.

Elimeno, the worth of your used balls is probably lower than you think. Of course, everything depends on condition.

The Defiant has almost no value at this point, maybe in a year it could be worth $50 shipped. But you can get NIB Defiants right now for around $120 and less.

The Versa-Max is probably worth about $30-$50 shipped at this time, depending on how good the cover is. Again, in a year it might be worth more, but there are still a few NIB ones floating around for a reasonable price.

The Black Widow really depends on condition. If the cover is thrashed and has already been resurfaced enough that the labels are beginning to fade, then you might get $20 or so plus shipping. If the cover is "like new" and has not already been resurfaced several times, you should be able to get $100 or more shipped for it.

Any recommendations on where someone may find a new Versa Max?  Been looking for a 14lb ball for a while, but not getting very far.  15lb has served well, but need to move down......

Thanks!!
