Ball surface and Wet Newspaper

Hi Fellow Bowlers - What is the process to wet news paper surface a bowling ball?  How long. How firm.  Expected results?  Thank you! Coach Denny

Typically I do it with a ball that is sanded up to 4000.

I will then heavily wet the news paper and apply to the ball. I wet the side facing the ball and the side facing your hand. This helps keep the news paper from flying out of your hand.

I use enough paper to fold it over three or four times so it has some layers to it. I point the folded edge into the direction the ball is spinning. This helps keep the paper in tac longer and not shred to pieces.

I go medium to firm for about 30 seconds each side. Then look it over and see if i need to redo for an additional 30secs or more per side.  I let it go till the water dries out and starts to get a little tacky before spraying additional water on the ball while spinning it.

For me it gives a very polished looked. I prefer over polish.

I agree 100% with above.

My experience is the same.

Hi ignitebowling and justlane - Thank you for the response.  I have never considered this option until I read the BR's section on surfacing adjustments.  I try to continue to learn and do various experimental alternatives and log the plan and results into my Bowling Note Book. Thank you for the quality step by step plan.   Coach Denny

I used to have pretty good luck with wet cat hair.  My cat didn't appreciate it very much Don't think she minded the ball spinner so much as the water spray.  She was a bit harder to hold onto than a sanding disc, but the finish was smooooth
