7 step approach?
« on: December 22, 2008, 02:23:54 PM »
First, the back story.  Im a big guy, about 6'1" 320lbs but i have short legs(28" inseam).  I typically have a 5 step approach, but i tend to rush to the line & i lose my balance quite frequently.

Well, tonight, our league pair had something wrong with the approaches, the left lane would just slide forever, while the right was tacky.  I had them clean them, but nothing changed.  The other bowlers walk slower than me, plus have less momentum since theyre smaller, so they didnt have that much trouble with the differences.

I decided, rather than switch soles back & forth, that i would just take a 7 step approach & slow down.

My scores werent great, but i did throw the ball well from that approach, & i was also a lot more solid at the line.

For me, the extra steps give me a more deliberate approach & seems to give me more control.  On top of the fact that it gets my ball speed back below 18mph(a recent development that has been causing problems for me).

Has anyone ever tried a 7 step approach, is there a reason for or against such a thing?

Any & all info would be great.

Shawn

I use about 7 steps. I get about a step and a half in before I get the ball going. It works well for my game because of the way I deliver the ball. When my balls start checking up on me I can take 1/2 step to a whole step to get back in the pocket but If I go any further up it's trouble.
The difference between Ordinary and Extraordinary is that little Extra.
