Title: Ball under my gravity shift
Post by: Kinalyx on January 15, 2009, 01:08:34 PM
Im looking to get something about 5 boards weaker than my Gravity shift, but im having trouble making a decision, im honestly not that excited about anything thats out right now, so i was hoping someone could come up with something i handt thought about.

Off the top of my head, the first thing that comes to mind is the hy-road, or a cell pearl.

Anyone got anything else, manufacturer doesnt matter, i mainly throw storm, but anything might catch my eye.

HyRoad sounds about right.....it is a great piece. Cell Pearl is DEFINITELY not 5 boards weaker (OOB anyway) than the Gravity. The Grand Illusion is a great ball too...

Don't argue with an idiot people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Very true -- the Cell Pearl is actually a couple boards stronger than the Gravity Shift from what I've seen!

Depending on how you throw the ball will make a big difference on how much weaker one ball is than the other.  If you're like me, stronger gear doesn't necessarily hook a whole lot more than weaker gear on medium lane conditions, it's just a matter of where and how it hooks.  The Hy-Road is one step down, the Grand Illusion is about the same strength but just a touch smoother, and even another step below that you might consider the Street Rod Solid or the Street Rod Pearl.  I personally liked the Street Rod Solid pretty well when I tried it once,  but again, that's just me.

When I find my Gravity too strong in the mids and unable to turn the corner moving left, I go to my T-Road Pearl.  My Gravity Shift is drilled pin under ring, 4.5in pin and MB to PAP.  My T-Road is drilled RICO, about 4.75in to PAP.  They have very similar motions, it's just how much oil they can handle.  Hope this helps!

Weaker than Gravity Shift?  Why would you want that?  I used mine in game 3 this past Wednesday and I needed a big game.  In the 10th frame I needed 2 strikes and count to win not just the game (we already had that in the bag), but total pins after losing by 200 pins the first game.  I got XX7 and victory with 237!  Had 8 strikes but obviously missed most of my spares.  But I was hitting the 2 board from the left side and it was taking the pins to the house.  1 and 2 messengers would destroy the 10 pin area.

Gravity Shift = numero uno (well behind the Vertigo of course!)

...for when there's not enough oil to get the Gravity Shift down the lane well?  You do understand the basics of ball motion, right?

I also jump to the T-Road Pearl when my Gravity Shift is too strong.  It is usually a perfect transition--keeps me in the pocket and rolling strikes.

I like the T Road Pearl idea.  Purple Thunderstruck would be sweet if you can find one.

Move you feet 5 boards left?  Just a thought....

Hey Shawn, how's all in Houston!!??
