Ball Weight
« on: September 01, 2008, 03:39:11 PM »
hey i know this may sound strange to some but i bought a ball almost a year ago from a respectable pro shop...this has been my "go to" in many tourneys but as of last week i come to find out (after purchasing my cell) the BWP i was throwin is
14 oz less then my Cell!!!!

WTF!!!!!

so the guy who sold me my BWP in Sept 07 sold me a 14 lb ball and told me it wsa a 15 lb ball...bein a good friend of a mine i naturally trusted him but in this situation i didnt know what to do?

It has happened before that wrong weights ended up in wrong boxes - but I wonder that the pro shop has not recognized this difference. In my pro shop, one of the service guys took up my old Hammer Blade Particle and just told me "Oh, that's a light 15 you have". And he was right!

I do not think (or hope) you got the ball on purpose. I'd just tell him about the mistake and wait for a response.

That is why a reputable shop will weigh the ball before they drill it as well as after it.  Weights, and MB have been known to be off.

What is the current weight of the ball?

The Cell could have been a heavy 15 and the BWP a light 15.

But what difference does it make if you couldn't notice it in the feel and it has obviously performed well for you?

If I bought a ball from my proshop and was not happy with it for any reason, he'd make it right to make me happy. If your guy is a good friend and you're not happy with the ball (although it sounds like you score with it), then he should make it right for you. Being you've had it for a year, I wouldn't think a full refund would be in order, but maybe some kind of "trade-in" on a new ball. Least you could do is tell him how you feel.

Considering it was a year ago, I really don't know.  Like Spike said, at least tell him how you feel about it, who knows, he may try to remedy the situation.  I do find it strange that he didn't weigh the ball before or after drill though.

i asked for a 15 lb BWP and i trusted him, i wudnt ask for a 14lb ball

i mean ive been improving my game and tryin to pick up some ball speed and when it wasnt workin my coach said lets weigh these and this is what they were...

it just made me kinda mad that a good friend of mine wudnt check it before drilling or selling...

im seein him on thursday and will update u then on what he decides to do

The question is...how were you rolling the BWP???  If the answer is "good", then what's the problem?  Ego can't handle the fact that you're rolling #14???

I dropped back to #14 balls last year when I was suffering through some terrible elbow tendonitis...still using them now that my elbow has healed.  Last night, a fellow on the other team makes the comment "that ball is hitting like it weighs #20..."  If it works for you then why does it matter how much it weighs???

If you really like the way the ball works for you, I would not exchange it for a new 15 lber even if the driller offers to do that.  A ball (that works) in the bag is better than one (that might not) on the shelf.  --  JohnP

Bowlers always look at the negative. Look at the positive, since it's your "go to ball" you have found out you should be throwing 14lb equipment.

BUT you couldn't tell the difference.

As far as you know you had a 15 lb ball and you had the confidence to perform well with it. Maybe you SHOULD be asking for 14 lbs balls from now on???

Be careful how you go into that pro shop now. That year's waiting time is a significant factor in this situation.

You traded your go to ball for a new ball and paid an extra 70 bucks to boot. Sounds like a bad deal to me. If the ball worked so well, I think you should have listened to the sage advice above, kept the ball and your money, and kept on scoring. If it aint' broke, don't fix it, no?

The pro shop guy must be o.k. A year later is a long time to come in with a complaint. If the weight was significant, you should have caught it the first night you threw it, especially if you were throwing other 15lb balls.

Let us know how your new ball works for you. My guess is you will be missing that go to ball, sooner or later.
