PAP question
« on: November 12, 2003, 09:21:59 PM »
My driller has told me that my PAP is 5" and 1" up. Other than helping out with drilling what does this tell me? (I understand what the measurements mean) But what does it tell me about how I throw the ball? Does someone who has different measurements throw the ball differently. More revs, less revs, higher track, lower track? Just curious if it really meant anything except for a drilling guide.

Let me take a stab....

Basically, information you can get from the PAP is the size of the track and the axis tilt at release. Theoretically the PAP is a point on the axis on which the ball initially rotates. The PAP will have no direct relation to the number of revs, other than the fact that high rev players will often have lower tracks and vice versa.

Generally 5" over is considered a high track, with minimal axis tilt.  This will tend to cause the ball to hook earlier, as more of the ball is in contact with the lane.  The total amount of hook will be more determined by the rotation rate and the horizontal axis(axis of rotation), which are not related to the PAP.

Does that help?
