ball when cell pearl is too strong
« on: March 23, 2010, 10:13:08 AM »
i have a cell pearl drilled pin up and to the right of my ring finger. i play down and in, usually right down 2nd arrow and i move in a bit as the night progresses. im looking for a ball that i can go to after the second game that i can ply with on my same line. the cell pearl just becomes too strong as the lanes break down. the cell pearl has never had any surface adjustments or added polish, i have roughly 60 games on it. what do you think, freeze, tropical storm? what do you suggest? thanks

If you want to stay Roto, I'd definitely go with a Dark Star. You could also look into a Nomad Pearl with a weak drilling.

Just a word of warning i guess. I see that you're considering the freeze. Just so you know, every freeze that i have ever seen thrown is WAY more aggressive than advertise, and a VERY quick response to dry. The only reason I say this is because if you're wanting to play down and in, it might not be the best choice for you. being that it would hook probably more than you want altogether, and if you push it outside at all, it would probably move bigtime, being that there are usually some dry boards out there. Just a word of advice.

Spartan's suggestions seemed like very good ones. Both balls being a very natural step down from the CP.

Just keep in mind that "weaker" equipment is only "weaker" on wetter or longer conditions.  I will also echo what was said on the Freeze.  It is a stronger ball than you might think.  Regarding the comment about being "very" quick off the dry, I would say it depends on where on the lane.  Since you are down and in, you will need to be careful not to hit the very dry boards on the outside as the ball will jump off the wall.  It should be a step-down from the Cell Pearl though, similar to the Nomad Pearl.  The Hammer Razyr is also a step-down, but without seeing your game, all of these are guesses as to what might work for you.
You might also want to keep in mind that pearl balls generally all respond quickly off the dry so you may find them jumpy as the lane breaks down if you bump the dry or have short oil.  You might also get "under" reaction if you tug it into the oil.
I haven't seen the Dark Star yet so I can't comment.
