Most of the time the haters are the "can't do'ers" I myself am a two finger guy and i avg 225 and have 4-300 gms so if it works for you than stick with it....I have been doing this for years and now all the sudden Belmonte is a hero for two handin the ball????Years ago it was like look at the way he throws thats not the right way and now they are teachin two hands to kids????? i dont know but like i said if you are comfortable that way then stay with it cause its legal and ya dont have to worry about tape or your thumb hangin up in the ball.......ha ha

OK, generally, I wouldn't come out of the gate with a new bowler and teach them 2-finger or 2-handed release.  Like anything else, people sometimes self-teach by watching others they idolize or just whatever feels comfortable to them.  After a while, you may have become good enough that it doesn't necessarily make sense to revert to a "traditional" style.
If you found a coach now, at a 160 or so average, they may try to get you to bowl the "normal" way.  For sirstrikealot, he will not want to make significant changes averaging 225.

I purely look at it from the perspective of, what can you do consistently and what are you physically able to sustain for a long period of time.  If your arm can not handle the bending at the elbow after a few years, than you might want to consider changing to a traditional style.  If you are OK with it, than stick with what you want.

I know you'll get a mixed bag of opinions from coaches, but you should have fun with the sport.  Just be prepared if you ever want coaching lessons, that many will either try to switch you or may have difficulty working with your game.

I know a guy in our house that bowls with no thumb and he averages 235 on ths.  He has over 30 300's and numerous 800's just watched him go 246 279 289 for an 814.  I have no idea how he does it but he does it well.
