Do you prefer the high dollar, pay $25/week, run 40 brackets every night, and have people up your butt every night asking how your team is doing, type of league? OR...Do you prefer the $15.00/week, maybe runs a few brackets, and have people FROM THE OTHER TEAM talking to you like you are one of their team mates, type of league?
I used to think that bowling in a competitive league was the way for me. I used to get amped up to get ready for the position rounds. I loved the comraderie with my team mates. HOWEVER....tonight made me realize on why I dont bowl those leagues anymore. Due to work schedule more than anything, I have pretty much been limited to what I bowl which happens to be the $15/week fun leagues. I have bowled on Fridays with some good people that are fun to be around. Well, I have a friend that messed his back up and has asked me to bowl in his place until he gets better. I have bowled for the last 8-10 weeks and thing have been okay. Then comes tonight. Next week is position round and we are in first place. All night long, we are getting spanked, and half the league walking down every 15 minutes grabbing our league recap sheet to see what we are doing. Years ago, it did not bother me as much but now it just gets really old.
Now that I have dabbled in the fun leagues, I have come to realize that money isnt everything. I dont care about the money. I love walking into the center and actually have bowling second focus. What I focus on first is the socializing with people that want to enjoy the sport as much as you do. Nice to be able to walk in and not talk about bowling, but what your favorite sports teams are doing, what you do for a living, and everyday life in general. Ironically, I am averaging 15 pins higher in the league where I am focusing less on bowling. And, whats more? The fun leagues in this center have 30 teams and 38 teams respectively. "Money" league, 16 teams.
SO....would you rather bowl in a league where you pay twice the weekly dues and have half the bowlers or bowl in a league where you pay half as much and have twice the number of bowlers?
