Weight Hole

My pro shop guy said that putting a weight hole in a bowling ball is only for decreasing hook, is that true? I thought you could put one in a ball to increase hook as well.

Weight holes are used to make a ball legal first. Then it can be used to adjust flare. You can get more or less flare depending on placement. I can't find the link but Brunsnick has a video where he has a ball with adjustable weight holes. In short, your pro is wrong.

When it is possible to increase differential 75% with a hole, I'd say your pro is wrong too.

Nick,
Since you didn't take the opportunity to "blow your own horn", I will post this link for you.
This is Brunsnick's demonstration video of how much difference just adding weight holes and their location on the ball can make.

or

Enjoy.

Depends on where the weight hole is, how big it is, and how deep it is. Could increase flare, decrease flare, increase backend, decrease backend, cover more boards, cover less boards.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I learned a lot of stuff today and thanks to Juggernaut for posting that link for me. Also to Locke for telling me about the link. Everyone else, thank you for helping me understand positioning and depth of weight holes.
