Wow...what a difference video makes(I need advice)
« on: May 25, 2005, 04:14:09 AM »
Me and a friend of mine have been video taping each other. I took my video tape home of me 2 monday's ago while throwing on my sport shot league. Using one of the image mixers on my computer I was able to break my approach down frame by frame and discover things I never knew about my game....Here is a little list.

Strengths:
Solid positioning before release
Good Timing(Just a tad late)
Pretty good knee bend
Solid finishing position
Finish only about 1-2 boards away from where I lined up Despite my drift.

Weaknesses:
Slow feet, I am not superman and my ball speed is slow
Bobbing/Moving head
(Here is my killer) Very weak Spinners release...
Small loft, not a smooth set down
Need to walk straighter/taller

That is just a small list, not going to go into all the little mistakes I have, we'll be here all day. Now how I did not know I am basically a spinner is beyond me, my track has always been away from the fingers but I have been able to hook the ball and throw it straight, and score to, with my release but after watching my release frame by frame, my hand starts turning WAY TOO EARLY ,then in the downswing my thumb exits but my fingers do not exit until they are clearly all the way on the side of the ball, along with my wrist being in a weak position. I had no idea....

Once me and my friend get some better video footage I will try to get the vid up on here, but does anyone have some suggestions on how to get my release up the back of the ball? Or just some suggestions on things for me to work on until I get some vids up?

Post the vids and let us see!

I have taped a couple of times and never realized I loft the ball so far!  I try and tell myself that I only do that while taping (like a subconscious thing that people act differently when they know they are being watched!).  I did notice during leagues the other night that I was lofting to about the arrows.

I never really get the camera out and tape different angles, always just sit it on top of the scorer or on the floor.  Need to get some side views to really break down my swing and timing.

Video will definately help you improve your game.  Imagine if you had access to Ebonite's Bowler Map program!

I will try to get the vid up but it will need editing, and I am clueless when it comes to running videos on computers.....so....I'll probably need my friends help first
