Ballreviews Needs Your Suggestions For Updating The Site
« on: April 22, 2008, 03:49:24 AM »
Hello Everyone-

We are looking to update the site with new features, and a better forum to keep Ballreviews as the best ball review site out there.  We are looking to add reviews for shoes, bags, and accessories.   Also we are going to implement video and picture uploads.  We are looking to you guys for any suggestions you have for the following categories - Layout, Content, Navigation of the site, and Forum Tools.  Please feel free to post any suggestions you have for these categories, but try to keep it short and sweet.

Example post:  Forum Tool - I would like to have a better way of searching the forum.

We thank you for your suggestions, and help in making Ballreviews the best it can be.

When posting something to a topic that has multiple pages it would be nice that once a reply has been posted that you're taken to the newest page first and not the oldest page first.

That, or at least having all the pages show up on the header page for each forum.  That way you can go directly to page 8 of a multiple page post.

How about the ability to have a notice given when a thread is duplicated, i.e. key words picked up or the link.  This would help in avoiding threads that have already been posted being duplicated like the one I did earlier today.

I don't see much improvement necessary for this site as it is definitely the best site of its kind. The only thing that could be improved concerns the ball reviews. For ball reviews, I go to bowlingballreviews.com although that site does not have much participation and does definitely not compare with ballreviews but their ball reviews are well structured and it is easier to compare balls.

Make this a bowling only site. Get rid of all the political and religous posting. I come on here to get bowling info!

I think it was mentioned earlier, but if not:

If there is a way to keep the Misc Non-Bowling topics off the Latest Forum Posts on the homepage, that would help.

Those who are interested, can still find the posts in the Latest Posts and in the forum itself.

It would be fun if you could add a chat section. I know that is probably not possible but it would be very fun.

Other forums have a feature that when you run your cursor over the post you get a preview of what's in it. Also the pic's right into the post is a must.

I like the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it!. I am color blind/weak and I have a hard time reading any threads on some sites that have dark backgrounds with colored text. For me this site is very easy on my eyes and I enjoy the ease of use (KISS) I really don't think there is much you have to do to improve this site. Its all very self explanatory and I think that even the "old school people" that aren't that computer literate can easily find anything they are looking for.

Can we have the ability rate the helpfulness of the reviews of any ball? (Similar to amazon.com's "Did you find this review helpful?" functionality).

I see too many reviews that talk about how someone doesn't actually own the ball (their friend does), but it hits like a truck and they're going to get one right away. There's never any link to the layout, lane conditions, bowlers specs, etc.

Perhaps a template should be mandated for all reviews to help enhance the quality of the evaluations presented.

This site needs very little improvement. It already gets 99 percent of the things right.

Some minor grievances, much of which has already been mentioned:

1) Post counts.

2) The ability to click directly to page 2,3,4,etc. on the forum fronts, rather than having to click on the main topic, THEN click on the last page.

3) Moderation issues. The Non-Bowling forum is basically useless due to poor poster behavior. Too much crap to wade through and I never visit it. Secondary to that are the dive-bombers that go into one manufacturer's forum simply to stir up trouble because they're a fan of a rival.

4) Expansion of the search feature beyond 30 days without having to go through a hack to do it.

5) Reviews of overseas balls. There's so much Brunswick, Storm and MoRich stuff coming into the U.S. market now that it would make sense.

Other than that, you're golden.

Jess

I would like to be able to click on my messages and then go from one to another without having to go back and click on the next message. Once you open a message, be able to click NEXT MESSAGE.

{b]Two suggestions here: First one is to mark the threads in which we have postd so we know if we've been there or not. Second is an "anything goes" type of forum where there is virtually no moderation and access only given to certain individuals who have a certain number of posts and can verify their age. That would mean no censors and such.
