Need some advice
« on: July 24, 2008, 05:01:15 PM »
Hope I'm posting this question in the right forum.  If not, please NICELY inform me of the mistake and i will be sure not to make it in the future.

Question.  I am looking to venture out of the storm brand that ive loved for so long and look for a ball that can do well in flooded oil.  I have a special agent, but cant seem to get it to break early enough in heavy oil.  Any suggestions as to what i should get for the upcoming season?

my columbia resurgence does pretty well when there is a large volume of oil on the lane. i also know the buzzbomb does well.

Instead of going blindly for another ball, better try some diagnostics.
What's your PAP, speed and revs for instance, and how is your Special Agent drilled? The ball should basically work well on oily and long patterns.

Easiest thing to do is sand the ball to a matte finish, and/or de-oil it, either at home in the bucket or at your pro shop.

It could also be that the ball is drilled to go too long (for your style and lane condition), then a balance hole could create more flare and hook potential - but that depends on the current setup. It could also be your style, with a low track, or speed dominance. Sometimes playing different parts of the lane (closer to the gutter/down-and-in) and/or changing the hand position will do the trick.

There's a lot to try and check before you potentially repeat the same mistake with a new ball

I agree with Dizzy ... check you current ball and how it matches up with your game and the lane conditions before trying a new ball. Perhaps adjust the coverstock finish to a lower grit for more early roll?

If you are still not satisfied, then good "oiler" balls might include: MoRich LevRG, Roto Grip Cell, Columbia Resurgence, or anything with a heavier particle load coverstock.
