I guess it depends on the lane conditions when you start. I'm a believer that on a THS that you have a good line to start, then get carry down, move a little right. Eventually you will get rid of the carry down and you'll have to move left (right handed bowlers)past where you started in the first game to find the oil. Again, it depends what oil condition you start with but also where the other league members are playing. How the oil is moved and eventually dried up tells you where to ove and when and if you need to make a ball change.
When i start leaving 10 pins and see an 8 pin go down late almost leaving an 8-10 split, I make a decision if the carry down effected the carry or did the ball burn up and roll out. For me in the third game its probably the ball is burning up and rolling out. I usually go with a ball that goes longer, retains energy and goes into a roll later helping to carry the pins. I try and follow the oil line so something that I can swing through the oil to the break point also works when there is still an inside shot.
I usually start down and in and one of my teammates uses a high flaring oil monster and swings the ball. This does two things, pushes oil into my ball path and dry the lanes out where I will eventually move to. Usually I have to jump his line to find more oil and try and carry.
So there are a lot of varibles. But if the carry down does dry up, something longer and stronger will help carry imho. Usually something polished or has been compunded. Some also say 4000 Ablaron with water on a spinner at high speed.
Good luck.
