Weak Equipment *house shot*
« on: October 27, 2005, 12:17:05 PM »
So i suck at bowling, and everything over-reacts, i guess i have like senior leauge speed.  So this week i decided to throw plastic, i liked the look i was getting. Standing 20-25 hitting the 10 board, shot a 230 practicing, used it in leauge averaged 187. *coulda been better, but i missed a few spares and left a couple of splits*

I like the look im getting, but at times it hits like plastic, i leave 7 pin's. Or if my ball speed is a little to fast then it never hooks. I have a decent ammount of hand and somewhat slow ball speed, the plastic has allowed me to play straighter and be more comfortable in the area that im playing.

On to my question... What kind of week equipment could i look into to use on teh THS, that will hook more than my plastic ball and carry at the pocket? I have been thinking about the lane #1 xxl.

Desert heat from track is perfect for dry lanes.  The desert heat also hits very hard for a dry lane ball.  In fact it hits very hard for any bowling ball period.  I have one and it's great fopr dry lanes.  If you buy one and it still is too much just polish it with delayed reaction and that should do the trick.  If it's too weak and won't hook enough polish it with magic shine and presto that should hook you up.

Thanks guys.

But the only balls im intrested in are Urathane and plastic with cores so the XXXL. And maybe the DryR, but something tells me that may be a little stronger than what i want right now. The more i look at the Slate blue the more im intreuged by it, assymetric urathane would give more drilling options than the XXXL. And probally be around the same price.

I looked at the desert heat, mercury, saraha, and the other "light oil" offerings by various companys. I think with my combo of Slow speed and to much hand would be more of a med condition ball for me. Also i would end up standing further left than i actually want to right now.

Go on ebay. No one wants older urethane stuff. You can get a NIB ball for around 20 bucks. I saw a lot of older urethanes on there yesterday.

I've had success on a THS with weaker equipment like the Columbia Panic and the Dynothane Barrage. Sometimes what helps would be taking a little off the coverstock and then putting a light shine on the equipment- especially if you plan on bouncing it off the drier portion of a THS.

Good luck with whatever you choose and let us know how things are working out.

Moe, I am also a slower speed bowler with too much hand for my own good. I've had a lot of success on conditions you describe with a storm Big Hit Pearl (the red and blue one).

Looks like my White dot, is gonna be what im throwing unless i come across some money.

I shot some more practice with it today, 199-202-233. I realize it was just practice, but its in the same house, where i have been bothered by the same conditions. It offers me what im looking for, something to play at or around 20 and up 10-5, a real easy shot. Where i dont have to worry about trying to hook the lane, or where my ball will bounce off of the 10 board.

I guess i have found my low buck winner for the time being, unless i try the 120 degree drilling that was suggested. Thanks alot guys.

polish your other equipment
or throw harder
on today's lane conditions, with as much oil as we use, its hard to find any carry with plastic.  drill a reactive or low load particle weak.

Throwing it harder is out of the question, and ALOT of it is polished OOB and i still find it to strong.

I shot 634 with plastic last night, carrying in my house isnt a problem with it. I just some times have no recovery, or i just wish i had something with a core to really carry.

I personally like the Columbia Super Trooper for this situation... I also have a Brunswick Power Groove Dry/R, but it tends to hit like a plastic... I suggest the Super Trooper. In fact, I think I'm going to play it as my first ball next week in my Tues. night men's league!

Desert heat works great for fried lanes.  Just drill it with a long pin and your set.
