Beaten Path
« on: March 07, 2017, 11:41:28 PM »
I wonder if the pattern I bowl on for practice is similar to the beaten path. Ball checks up quick in the middle and skates outside 5. No hold and flying backends. There's a path on the track...

In two weeks I will be at this (same) house bowling a tournament and the pattern is the Beaten Path.

what's your experience and ball types you've used?

I've used LT-48 4k/polish and Rave oob, but I need a smoother ball. These balls are jumpy. The LT-48 is naturally smooth when I first got it, but going down on surface leaves corners.

On a high friction surface I actually had a good look playing outside with a Storm Ride and as transition occurred I moved inside with a Storm Fight.

I've become a fan of starting out with a weaker ball and then moving inside with something stronger on most patterns

Keep in mind that I am rev-dominant (375-410 RPMs and 16 MPH). Normally, on this pattern, I start out with a ball that is smooth and has a 4000 grit surface (original Danger Zone).  I keep my angles relatively closed on the fresh and my breakpoint is roughly around the track area depending on the lane surface (5-10 board). As the pattern breaks down, I simply chase the pattern in and find some hold towards the middle. Generally, you can still find miss to the inside but it is a little more critical than the THS to get the ball to the proper spot. Yes, there is less friction outside five and less hold inside fifteen compared to the China but the Beaten Path can be VERY forgiving if you can get your angles right and execute. Remember, the track area is the sweet spot on this pattern.
