Before everyone decides to leave BallReviews.com....
« on: December 07, 2004, 01:37:53 AM »
Yeah, there's my site, BBE, BowlingIndex, PBA, etc to go to.

But this place still has merit.  A couple of problem users (I have had my share of them too) but all sites with this amount of traffic gets them.  Consider it a sign that this is one of bowling's 800lb gorillas online.  It doesn't happen to small sites, to be sure.  And small sites don't speak of mass exodus.

So... before you leave... what needs to be fixed?

I'll echo Bob7's statement along with better control of what's posted in the ball reviews section.

Yeah, but for now the only other site that offers any substantial amount of ball reviews is bowlingballreviews.com ... and their forums stink.

This place has one of the most trafficed forums that I know of.

The problem, as I see it, is the lack of response from the webmaster when things get nasty.  I don't think they necessarily need to be "active" on the site, but certainly should be "responsive".

Oh I completely agree.

But... and you knew this was coming... people still click them posts!  Just look at the hit counter for that post about wicked290 breaking the sport shot record, or whatever it said.

It's human nature.  The same reason there are so many viruses running around... even though you've been told not to click that attachment, people still do.  hehehe

If there was nothing wrong, so many people wouldn't be complaining.

'Bones I gotta disagree with ya here.  I firmly believe that most of our old fav posters would still be here if they hadn't gotten sick of the kids and poor site users.  A few would have left over time as that's just part of the net.....but then again a number of them have said they just sick and tired of the usual BS with no recourse since Scott sold the site.

I agree with TONY and BOB .. CONTROLS are needed.

Once a user has been identified as a PROBLEM .. all his postings should automatically be forwarded to a MODERATOR who can determine if it's valid or should be DELETED! The moderator should have DELETE capabilities .. this will at least control KNOWN offenders. Naturally they can sign on with a different ID .. but they will be known again .. soon! This may not be the FINAL ANSWER but it can help on the short run!

I just use the ignore user feature. The only thing bothering me here is people complaining about things I never see. I'll just stay here.

The name could be changed...since the ball reviews are worthless for the most part. I've never looked at a ball review after the first month of finding this site. I go to the manufacturer's site, do research and talk to my driller.
Most people don't know how to give put together a good review. As has been mentioned many times on this site: A fillable form should be developed. Sort of like Ball Selector.com tried to do, in the "My Profile" section.

Yeah, the only time I look at the ball reviews, I never actually look at the reviews, I'm just checking the specs if a customer has a question and I'm not quite sure of the answer (such as RG number or box surface).

I look at it differently than some of you on the ball reviews section.  I've been asked by newbies what is the point of some of these reviews....they get very turned off by many of them.

So, if a new site user happens by and sees some the dung that is posted in the reviews section and leaves deciding that this site's forums are as bad as the reviews section we've lost a potential good member that we may enjoy sharing some information and stories with.

I look at things differently too. I think the entire internet has good qualities and bad qualities. But like our consititution gives us, we have the right to express our views. I dont like trolls either but they are for the most part a small negative part of this forum and they will always be. No matter where you go there will be a troll that will do something and get away with it for a while.

Without question this site is in a class by itself. I would suspect the "new" owners are still in a learning curve about there responsibilties and expectations. I would think this episode brought to light the importance of having online moderators that have privledges to protect the forums.

I for one will go where ever the bowlers go to continue my learning and share my knowledge and views. Its so much easier to have a single location that this forum provides. I have already registered at others and fortunately I have not seen many there already.
