being the first in your area to throw a ball...
« on: August 26, 2019, 01:48:41 PM »
is anyone else like me in the sense that they like throwing equipment that others aren't throwing in their center or area?

I ask this because i got some good ball advice from Impending Doom(beetlejuice effect will take place and i see him responding to this post within an hour) and got an After Dark Pearl because i needed a smooth low end ball.  and I've had a lot of success with it, to the point where two people got it since they liked the way i rolled it.  Well since then, a 900 Global rep took over running the bowling alley and now it seems like everyone is throwing 900 global, along with storm and roto due to the in house pro shop sponsorship.  plus we have a handful of hammer and motiv guys.

Well, i'm looking for a "benchmark" ball, hate the term but thats the category i'm looking at. something symmetrical, either pearl or hybrid, and there's great options like the ordnance pearl and the white hot badger, the idol pearl and the emerald IQ, and the pink black widow(i know its an assym but it's still in that category of what i'm looking at) are all great balls but they're becoming all too common.

its got me looking at the MVP by brunswick, Prowler or Night Prowler by DV8 and the Squatch by Radical as possible options.

but is anyone else out there like this?  PS i have my Hyroad Live which nobody probably in southern California even has, and i love it that way

I throw Storm/Roto exclusively but not really for any real reason......that said, the ADP really has me looking at it.  Our Friday night team is moving to another house and it's older wood with some smoked outsides.

That tall core and mild differential and a milder pearl coverstock looks pretty good.....  :-\

You’ll love it. I use mine up the ditch and it’s perfect

IMO, Ordnance pearl isn't my idea of benchmark. The Solid is. You could polish it up and still get good length thru the heads without the ball taking off left.

I was the first in my area to throw the original Phaze...that was a mistake.  Rumor is the first batch of the Phaze was missing an additive that was key to performance.  This was supposedly corrected with later batches.

I've purchased a few balls that were great, and never saw anyone else throw...Train, Grease Monkey POW, Hook, and Phobia to name a few.

A lot of times we bowlers get sucked into certain companies and are afraid to abandon them. There's a bunch of good stuff out there IMHO, give some a try.

Train and Hook were great! I still have a NIB Freight Train to put holes in!

Agree!!! I rolled an 854 with the Blue/Yellow Hook, crazy night that was.

The Train was a very steady piece for me, liked the shape of that one. Took it everywhere for 2 years, was the 1st ball out of my bag. I maintained it well but it died out after about 500 games☹️

Throwing the Rogue Assassin tomorrow night. Probably won't be another one in the house

this is kinda what i'm talking about.  I wanna be the guy who makes others be like "damn i should get that".  throwing older equipment is nice cuz its rare, and it's kinda on the same line.  But i wanna be the first one to have it.

I tend to bowl in leagues where there are many bowlers who are better than I am, so my bowling probably won't have much influence on anyone in the league or just watching.

I'm a decent bowler, but have no desire to be a Big Fish in a Little Pond.

This...."being the first to throw a ball in your area" does not impress me! I've known plenty of guys who are the first to get the latest and greatest new piece out....but can't throw it for sh*t!

That does a disservice to the ball and manufacturer in my opinion!

There's really nothing new under the sun when it comes to making bowling balls other than prettier colors; more aggressive coverstocks; tweaked numbers to obtain certain differentials; and some crazy looking cores!

What ever you throw....throw it well! And folks will still wonder what in the hell you're throwing nonetheless! Just saying.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Can see both sides and love picking up exotic balls to throw for practice but when it comes to league its kind of like your tools of trade at work.  I at least only replace when necessary and go with what I know works caring little for what anyone thinks.  Score is all that matters to me.
Here today.  Gone tomorrow.
