Greetings!
I wanted to post a quick report on my Belgian Open experience even though I was horrible!!!
After checking out the website and seeing the pattern I figured I would need to have some pretty early rolling equipment with the 90 units up front. Took the slight polish I had on my Cell and my Horizon Solid and kept my Odyssey at 1500. Figured this would give me a good early read and not be too over/under and would allow me to play a couple different areas on the lane if needed.
When I got to the center which is a very cool little 20 lane center ...10 on each side but only used 16 of them for the tourney. I arrived a little too late to catch the squad before me due to a nice stau (traffic jam) near Brussels. I took a peek at the Lane Graph and noticed the 90 units was really 55....That was my first uh-oh....I then took a quick peek at what equipment was laying around and say a ton of strong core balls drilled strong but with lots of shine...second uh-oh. It stated to make sense when I saw the scoring being so high ....not what I was thinking with the initial pattern.
So got to the lane....and started practice...there was good head oil but everything I had was revving at the line and dying about 5 feet to early. I then figured out I had a really big gap in my arsenal as I didn't have a strong ball with the big polish. Pulled out my weakly drilled Illusion as was just not strong enough off the break (which is exactly what I wanted to fight some of the league shots I see and the later rounds in tourneys), but wasn't enough for me. Lots of weak 10's...2-10's and such. Couldn't create the jump I needed at the break point. So I was in the lovely in-between land and learned a HUGE lesson. Don't trust you ability to read lane charts!!..*laugh*...My timing was slight off but think that was a bit due to really having to be very accurate on a not a very difficult shot. Made for some ugly bowling..:-)
I really enjoyed watching some of Europe's best just destroy this pattern, both men and women. I was lucky enough to bowl a set with Kirsten Penny and she truly is one heck of a bowler and a very nice person on top of it. Crossed near Martin Larsen (way too good and way to nice and way too accurate).
Lots of amazing bowlers just tearing up the shot (almost a house shot...could play a nice bump shot 15 to 5 or attack up the lane with speed).
So now the decision comes as to what I want to do to fill that arsenal spot? I really like the reaction of my weakly drilled Illusion for my league shots and for later rounds in tourneys when I make it that far. Really very forgiving off the break and really hits nice. I really like the Cell for the Heavy and really like the consistent roll on it on many occasions. Unfortunately was too strong for me for this tourney but am sure it will be useful when they go with longer or higher volume patterns.
So I need a serious Skid/Flip ball. Think an earlier type drilling with a good bit of polish to give me a little earlier roll but with that strong move of the break point.

Wait for the Grand Illusion. I have three SD73'S that fall in the catagory your looking at. The Grand should fall in about the same spot. Similar block without the top flip block but a slightly more aggresive cover. Should react similar to the Silver Streak series. That was a great set of balls with versitility and controllability.
