So, I noticed that half of the entries in the latest editions column on the homepage say this about themselves

offers good traction in the midlane and continuation on the backend and beyond.

to offer midlane traction and mind blowing backend continuation

which is strong mid lane and backend continuation.

This combination will offer incredible traction at the mid-lane as well as ample backend and continuation through the pin deck.

This core and cover combo offer a strong mid-lane reaction with continuous backend

All five are from different releases. It is either extreme parity in the ball marketplace, or just some catchy buzzwords to get the bees buzzing. hmmm

If you tried to pick a ball that would be the best "fit" for your game based on staffer reviews you would go "bat sh.t crazy".
If you want to know the "real truth" ask the non-staffers who post on this forum.  They will provide the information you desire to make a informed decision.

I was simply commenting on how there are many of the new listings on this site all touting the same "this is why you should pick me" characteristics. I am not looking for new equipment myself, but find much "parity" in the newer releases.

All u need is one with midlane and one that goes long.

Spare and urethane if necessary.

The rest is flashy marketing you are buying for your bag.

The amount of releases tells me they need each bowler to buy as many releases as possible.

 Would you buy a ball that said “Skids through the mids, never reads the backend, and deflects like a mofo”?

 What do you really expect the marketing depts to tell you?

If you were to give an honest assessment of the Storm Phaze, this would be a spot on review. :D

Continuation has been the buzz word for a while now.  Reason is simple.  Most every thing in the average bowlers bag is too high friction for the typical house shot causing early burn and lack of continuation.  Any ball will give you continuation if the speed and revs  match up eith the pattern.  No ball will if you don't have said matchup.

Exactly, this "continuation" marketing is misleading to say the least. I would argue that today's pieces (especially the oilers) have a more angular motion than strong pieces of the past but angularity does not equal continuation. Today's strong pieces will die out just as bad as yesterday's strong pieces if the bowler does not have the proper match of lane conditions to his style.

Good point on the angularity.  One thing I have noticed for years is how quickly resin balls go from skid to burn out no matter how much length they get.  That is the biggest reason carry is so problematic for most bowlers who dont have good speed to go along with their rev rate.  No matter how much entry angle you create, 10 dont go down if the ball has burned off all its energy to create the angle.

Just because a ball runs over the 8 pin (Or 9 if you use the wrong hand) doesn't make it continuous. It's just a greater angle of entry. To think that the ball is going to keep going until it gets to the corner of the pin deck shot after shot is not right.
