Benchmark Ball?
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:52:21 AM »
I am a cranker with 468 RPM''s and 17-18 MPH ball speed. I''m looking for a good benchmark ball, preferably a solid coverstock and sanded. I was thinking the Reign of Fire or Mutant Cell drilled control. What do you guys recommend?

I would recommend taking a look at the 900G Breakout ball is my benchmark ball.  I also have a RG Grand Illusion which is a good benchmark ball, I would think the mutant would be to strong to be considered a benchmark ball.  JMO.

If you used either of those as a benchmark ball you would have to take the surface up to 4000 most likely. Personally, I would go with a Hy-Road (2000) or a Furious (box) since you seem to like the Roto/Storm balls.

My 2 cents:

With his very high rev rate and not as high ball speed, I suspect he/you will need not as much surface as someone whose ball speed and rev rate are more closely matched. Maybe a 4000 grit surface or a lightly polished ball.

I suspect that the ROF or the Mutant might be too strong because of your high rev rate.

Let me ask this: is your 17-18 mph speed at the arrows or at the backend (Qubica ball speed)?

1. practice scores are no different than league scores, except for the fact that you get rings for certified ones.

2. i know the fundamentals of the game. i know a bunch of crap about bowling. go ahead, ask me anything about bowling and i'll give you the answer.

Not even close!! When practicing you do not have to deal with anywhere near the transition you see with 10 people bowling on the pattern. Shoot those numbers in competition on a legitimate shot not a house wall where you have a ton of miss room and then you have something you can brag about.

Practice scores are different then league scores. For one, when you practice you are the only person playing on the lanes, so the oil transitions much slower. You also get to bowl as fast or as slow as you want. You could bowl a single game in 5 minutes if you wanted to, something that's just not possible in a league situation. Lastly, there is no scoreboard pressure from an opponent shooting good or bad against you.

If you think league/tournament bowling is the same as practice, you're just wrong.
