If its like Cosmic bowling, Moonlight bowling, Rocking bowling, etc.......its all with the lights off, spot lights, black lights and other specialty lights on with music. Don't count on the lanes being dressed for this condition, so you will need something suitable for more broken down, possibly drier conditions.
I love Rockin Bowling and have bowled some pretty darn high series (700) under these conditions. What I do is enjoy the music. Don't worry about your neighbors, only to the point of avoiding them if they are going to constantly walk up on you. This is going to be up to you, because you cannot expect folks that bowl under these conditions to understand lane courtesy. So you have to take the bull by the horns as far as courtesy goes.
I also like that with the lights down, it really starts to make you concentrate on your ball path, and not fixate on your primary target. Most people don't realize what a huge benefit this is. If you target the arrows all the time and that's about it, then this will help you start visualizing your ball path. Now with that said, I'll say that if there are spot lights around flashing...I just get their cycle and wait until they cover my primary target....fix on that and go!
Most people can adjust to the music. And I personally enjoy the music and wish they'd play it in league. Otherwise you'll have to adjust to non league bowlers that are in various stages of inebriation. They may or maynot have their children down on the lanes with them. Don't look for a lot of management, if any, from the center. These times are pretty much a free for all.
Benefits of Rockin Bowling
1. learn to bowl with physical distractions like non league bowlers (and their friends) doing very strange stuff
2. learn to visualize a ball path with a bare glance at a primary target
3. learn to block out or absorb audible distractions in the way of music
4. learn to bowl on a lane condition that is not groomed for league scoring.
