« on: May 24, 2004, 02:58:42 AM »
Well June 19-20th i will be going to BEST in NJ. I will be bringing a 6 Ball Aresenal. I would like help setting it up.
My Current Balls:
Storm X-factor
Storm X-factor Reloaded
Storm X-factor World 2003
Storm Triple X-factor
Storm Tour Power
Track Tritan Heat
Storm Truama Recovery (Being Re-drilled)
Columbia Rock On (Being Resurfaced and Redrilled)
Soccer Ball (Plastic)

The tournament is being held an 80 lane house with wood lanes. For Qualifying on Saturday first 6 games is house shot, second 6 is a sport shot. I want to bring a few dull balls and polished.. Thanks for any help.

6 games on wood lanes...that screams one word to me...BURNT!  I'd suggest either getting a dry lane ball or polishing the begeezus out of your X-Factor and probably also your Triton Heat.  Dull up the Rock On! a little bit (not too much).  Then also take the Tour Power (a no-brainer), the Triple X, and the Soccer Ball.  This should fill your needs rather nicely...

Heavier: Rock On!
Medium-Heavy: Triple X
Medium: Tour Power
Medium-Light: Triton Heat
Light: X-Factor
Spare Ball: Soccer

I would take:
Heavier - World 600 grit/red scotch brite dull
Med/Hvy - Reloaded 1000 grit/grey scotch brite dull
Medium - XXX 1500 grit polished
Med/Lt - X 2000 grit polished
Control - Tour
Spare

The house shot there is easy...any ball you have will do and the oil SHOULD hold line for most of or all 6 games...there shouldnt be any major breakdowns.  The flat shot for the next 6 will be a different story.  I will be there too, probably with 5 balls, reloaded...flash force...hot wire...barbed wire...plastic.  Theyre wood, but theyre maintained really well.  I bowl in the NJ Conference of the JBT...the house shot is pretty high scoring, but with a flat shot, its tough no matter what surface its put down on.  There does seem to be a pretty good track area around 10 though, if you are a righty.

The best surfaces for your equipment are whatever will give you the most consistent line through the heads and the most controlled breakpoint in the backend.  the first 6 games are going to be like every other tournament...it will not make much of a difference which ball you use and what line you play.  however, the next block that has the flat oil shot will be much harder, and then your surfaces will come into play for the reasons i gave before.  i would suggest keeping most of the equipment the way they are now, because the most successful way to play a flat shot is going direct and controlled.  sanded equipment is going to grip way too early and will come out of play once the track area breaks down.  the polished stuff will give u much better consistency through the heads with a more controlled backend...at least that is what it does for me.  either way, no matter what you bring, the first 6 should be cake, and the last 6 will be a challenge...if you dont make accurate shots, it doesnt matter what you bring.
