Best Arsenal?
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:42:24 AM »
I'm making the move down to 15lb's, and I was curious who is making the best equipment right now? I think I've seen a lot of companies making a great ball here and there, but are there any manufacturers out there making enough quality product to stay within one brand?

The arsenal I will be replacing:
Reign of Fire
Blast Zone
HyRoad
Gravity Shift
Bedlam
Freeze
Mercury
Power Groove

Out of these I basically only use the HyRoad, Bedlam, and Gravity Shift. I know I want to get a Nomad Dagger and I won't throw Brunswick unless the ball is free, but other than that I'm pretty much open to ideas on building my next arsenal. I know we get these posts daily, but thanks ahead of time for the help.

The answer is no. To get a true *complete* arsenal you need to have a well rounded selection.  Every company has a certain characteristic reaction and can work better on some conditions than others.

If the company isn't paying you, why bother limiting yourself?

u need something that handles a bit more oil, u got it covered except for longer and heavier conditions
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I'd recommend Track if you're looking for the most complete line-up, Top to Bottom. Their oilers - 916AT and 715T - could cover the longer/higher volume patterns.

I think you can do this if you consider 900G and AMF one brand...

Here is what I am going with..

AMF Mega Recovery (went with this instead of the Bank as wanted serious oiler)
900G S-75 (probably can go with a Polished Raw Profit here or a strong Profit)
900G Favorite
900G Long Shot
AMF Hype Urethane

Pretty sure this will cover all I will see. I will be bowling a Dual Lane Condition event in Feb and think I am perfectly fine with this...will see!

Yeah, I know what you mean about sticking with one brand, as I have found a lot of particular bowling balls I have liked, but I don't know if I could build an arsenal without significant overlap.

The balls I've thrown recently that I really like:
Columbia Burst
Track 607A
Track 715C
Hammer Backlash Blue

Also, sorry to keep limiting the choices, but perhaps it make it easier to make suggestions. I won't throw AMF equipment, and unlike Brunswick, I wouldn't throw it even if it was given to me for free. That has nothing to do with the quality of their equipment, but just personal grievances with the company itself.

I would usually throw only Storm and Roto, but I don't like where Storm is at right now in terms of selection. I didn't like the Invasion, but I think the Anarchy could be really good for a strong pearl, and I don't know anything about the Prodigy. I really like the dagger, but I've never thrown anything else in the Nomad line, or anything else Roto has made besides the Cell and Mercury.

So, if you could build an arsenal from Hammer, Track, Roto, Columbia, and possibly Storm...let me know what your dream line up would be and what hole each ball would fill.

Thanks, the responses so far have been very informative.

Yeah, this is more how I was looking. I appreciate the suggestion. Does anyone else have a better line up?

Also, you can classify them by more than volume of oil. I am so anal I will usually break my balls down by: volume, cover, shape. So feel free to make your dream line up using my few limitations. I will probably use a 7 ball line up, with the urethane (whichever you suggest) doubling as a spare ball.

I have more Storm right now than anything, but don't be afraid to consider Brunswick.  Their durability is second to none IMHO.  Case in point - I have a Twisted Fury that now has 95 games on it (I keep track of usage) and the other day I was finally able to find a scratch on it (note: all of those games are on wood lanes).  It has shown zero signs of ball death either.  Previously, I had a Fury Pearl as well.  I sold it because it was a bit too heavy, but my experience with it was the same (70 very durable games).

Just get the entire Ogre line from Visionary and you have most lane conditions covered.

Ogre Particle
Ogre Solid
Ogre Pearl
Ogre SS
Ogre Urethane

@freakin10pin....+1

Just went through this myself. Carried 6 balls to 3 different leagues in 3 different houses and found myself jumping from ball to ball..I do know my equipment, but at times it seemed to hinder me. So now I carry 3 balls to league(s) - med/heavy - CRUEL, med/med light - QZ2 and a spare ball...if they are that dry...I can always throw the spare ball....I was struggling, going 750 - 610 - 650 - 790 with jumping around...now that I have started carrying 3 it's been 660-690 on a regular basis with the ocassional 730-740 in there......Just my personal experience(s)....but there are always 3 more in the van if I need them..

not to take a shot at the original posting, but if all you bowl on is wall shots and cant get it done with 2 or 3 balls, you cant get it done period.

I think having too many balls lowers scores.  Learn to adjust hand position, speed, axis rotation, revs and you'll do far better than guessing at what piece of equipment to try.

--------------------
Righty
Speed: 17.5 (MAP Session)
Revs: 400ish (MAP Session)
Axis: 5-3/4"  5/16 down
Rotation: 60'

See Profile for arsenal

I bowl on 1 house shot a week. I bowl 2 PBA experience leagues and usually a tournament every weekend. When I bowl that one league all I bring is my Storm Gravity Shift and a Spare ball. Adjustments is not an issue. When you bowl in the South you need to be able to keep pace, and often that means not just having the right look but the right ball. If tournaments were limited to one ball I'd love it, but that's not our current reality.

Please don't allow this post to hi-jack this thread, I really like the suggestions.

vkowalski1970: why wouldn't you include your 607A in the line up?

Mr. Perfect

I like the 607A but not in love with it so to speak. The 715T and 505T are better balls IMHO. Id would be open to trying other balls in that position!

I carry 4 for league(4 ball bag) 715T, 505T, 607A and white dot. The C-system 3.5 and Dark Star stay in car! They are there if I need one of them. To be honest, Its rare I use anything but the 505T and White Dot(spares) during league. The 505T is versatile and handles release changes well.
I carry all 6 in for tournaments!
