Best Arsenal?
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:42:24 AM »
I'm making the move down to 15lb's, and I was curious who is making the best equipment right now? I think I've seen a lot of companies making a great ball here and there, but are there any manufacturers out there making enough quality product to stay within one brand?

The arsenal I will be replacing:
Reign of Fire
Blast Zone
HyRoad
Gravity Shift
Bedlam
Freeze
Mercury
Power Groove

Out of these I basically only use the HyRoad, Bedlam, and Gravity Shift. I know I want to get a Nomad Dagger and I won't throw Brunswick unless the ball is free, but other than that I'm pretty much open to ideas on building my next arsenal. I know we get these posts daily, but thanks ahead of time for the help.

I like the 607A but not in love with it so to speak. The 715T and 505T are better balls IMHO. Id would be open to trying other balls in that position!

How is it drilled? and what are the reasons you aren't in love with it?

I do like it and have scored well with it, but I dont feel as confident as I should. Its drilled 65x4.5x30. I have played with surfaces. it was majorly over/under out of box, 4000 was ok anything lower it started up earlier than i wanted. I have it at 1000 polished now and its money on the right shot, just not as versatile as i hoped. I bought a 505T, drilled the same as the 607 and surface of 2000Ab and 4000ab and feel the ball is much more versatile. It is a bit stronger but seems to take release and surface adjustments better..just my opinion.

I was just curious, because I've only used the 607A on Cheetah, a second shift house shot on wood lanes, and on this years national pattern. Overall, I found the ball to be ridicously angular at the breakpoint. The main thing I found with the ball is that even though it cleared the heads rather smoothly, it really needed a little bit of head oil or I had to put it away.

Okay, I think I've gotten enough suggestion, my next couple of questions are going to be to narrow down the choices.

Out of these urethane balls which should I go with?

Rotogrip Grenade vs. Storm Natural

Let me know which and why...Thanks again you guys have been very helpful.

To each his own.  I have a 607a in my bag and love it. Keep my 505t adn 715t at 2k, 607a is at 4k, and a 505a.  Depending on the volume of the house I either take the top 2, middle 2 or bottom 2 and a spare ball to league.  Tourneys I take everything...never know on the left side.

jdball...how do you have the 607 drilled?

Mr. perfect, my thoughts exactly you need quite a bit of head oil or you have to put the ball away, I was hoping it would handle a break down in the front of the lane better than it does, when i took the polish off it rolled up a bit early and no carry. With polish i have to play tighter or I dont carry with it. Getting to the pocket has been no problem at any surface with it. I was hoping I could push it through the heads and open up my shot, but I cant seem to carry when i do.
If I play the oil line to far down it comes in light, get it right a bit early comes in a bit heavy..

I have scored well at times with it, but i seem to go 4 pin-10 pin constantly.
Im sure its me, cause i do see a nice movement from the ball...but i want to make it better and not sure how.

NATURAL VS GRENADE

I would go with Grenade purely because I have a Dark Star that I love and it has the same core!

I was considering the Grenade, because I am very much not a first adopter, and I would think that Storm and Roto would share information on their new urethane offerings making the Grenade an improvement, however slight, on the Natural.

heres my current arsenal, all on my photobucket link as well

heavy  -- theory, invasion,
med-heavy  -- azo area check, prodigy
medium -- anarchy
med-light --hyroad (replacing with reign supreme)
light oil -spare shooting --mutant cell pearl, c system 4.5

its works for me.. i carry 5 usually just because one of the houses i bowl at doesnt carry lol..

the most versitle ball house to house is the prodigy, and my theory seems very promising!

So the mutant cell pearl really is as weak as everyone says? What are your thoughts on the Prodigy, overall I don't know much about that ball...it seems to be overlooked for the most part.

I think I've settled on the Theory, Dagger, and once you guys let me know either the Natural or Grenade.

BTM has the Grenade rated to hook everso slightly more than the Natural.  The Grenade will flare slightly more and will grab the lane and start rolling a slight bit earlier than the Natural.  Comparing the two based on BTM's stats, they appear to be almost identical.  They both have the same out of the box finish at 2000 Abralon.

For the record, I have a Natural and I have never seen a Grenade thrown, FWIW - I'm basing everything about the Grenade off of BTM's data.

I have only seen the Grenade go down the lane, but from those I've talked to everyone seems to love the Natural.

I like the natural but it isn't very versatile.  Figures cause its urethane and I don't get to throw it much.  But when the time is right to use it, its money from the outside part of the lane.  FWIW I throw it at 1000 and polish most of the time, and sometimes 2000 abby by hand if I got nothing else with my other pieces
