What would you use...
« on: December 15, 2010, 09:59:53 PM »
to snug up your finger inserts a bit without actually having to switch them out?
I would prefer something on the back side of inserts.  Does anybody use any type of tape, does it hold/stick to the inserts?  I use hada patches for my thumb, can I cut smaller pieces and use them on the back of my fingers?  Any suggestions?

I used to use small, thin pieces of cardboard to "shim" my inserts....slide it in between the ball and insert on the back side of the hole.

I used to shim my inserts when the weather changed, etc., but then I switched to Vacu-grips and have had a great fit ever since then. They need to be replaced more frequently, but it's worth it for the predictable comfort and very quick, clean release.

I was given a tip by Lou Marquez of Turbo, he suggested that you cut small (1/2"x1/2") pieces of plastic milk jug to be used as shims. They don't crush, and I've never had one fall out.

Some great suggestions above...I don't care for Vacu Grips personally, they make me feel like I have to grip it to hold on.  I use small think pieces of plastic from various sources...and milk jugs are a great idea (never thought of that).  Once you get used to shimming you will never have an issue with your finger inserts again.

I use a combination of business cards as shims in the back of the insert
and this product, Milo Sports Adjust A GripTM:

This plastic shim is much easier to put in and take out and is thicker.

I have used black thumb tape in a lot of balls, but to shim permanently not just for a night when my hand is shrunk up due to weather or whatever. Since I have done this from the start it is glued in place when I glue the inserts. In that case it works fine. I have wrapped then entire insert of just one side depending on the feel.

I've just used Ebonite hand tape and place it on the back of my fingers like I do my Hada Patches. If I need it to be larger, I just layer another piece on top of it. It's not the prettiest solution as it does layer off sometimes, but it does the job and my fingers are snug as I like!

I leave the backs unglued and use pieces of straw to tighten them up. Been doing it for years, works great, straw is very flexible and molds to the ball hole shape easily and you can find them at every bowling alley!
