One of the things I hate about most bowling centers is how poor the lighting is especially over the lanes.

First year I bowled Nationals was in Baton Rouge.  The best thing was how well lit the lanes were. You could actually see boards down lane.

Some newer centers have gone away from the sawtooth ceilings over the lanes and added some direct lighting which is nice.

Lighting shouldn't effect the oil. Oil didn't evaporate, so the heating of more light shouldn't change anything. Most likely it is a psychological thing. Something about the summer lighting makes you more comfortable, so you shoot better.

I feel ya 2handedvalcano, if the lights are to bright I just close my eyes and bowl on instinct.

Years ago in one of my leagues a guy had the front 11 strikes.  His teammates dared him to bowl the last ball blindfolded so he pulled the bottom of his shirt up over his head and STRUCK anyway...

On my alleys where I bowl, there is such a reflection from overhead lights that I cannot see most of the arrows or my mark (10 board). It's somewhat frustrating, but I suffice & carry on. Been doing it for so long it sorta becomes 2nd nature. Besides, what can I do about it. ::)

Jimjames, have you tried polarized sunglasses? Polarization filters light in a way as to cut out glare and reflection.

The ones to get are a pair of the old driving or shooting glasses. They were polarized and had the yellow lenses for increased contrast.

Driving yes, bowling no. Hmm. Could give that a try for sure. Thanks for the lead.

I didn't think of the shooting glasses, but they may actually work better. Never hurts to try
